Here is a link to the Map for the area:

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialdatal ... ttlema.pdf

The legend is at the bottm - the JEEP trails are the larger blocks.

This is the snowmobile trail I just ran, great views and should be fun with a group!

I double checked, NO ORV sticker required - only valid state tags needed.

C'mon JULY!

Lets start looking at a date and then start a new thread. Renegade363 - you are in charge of coordinating this one because I have no cluse about that area or the best time to head up there.

Lets say in June sometime? Memorial Day weekend may be an option unless that is a really busy time for that area.

Yes a weekend holiday would be to busy and they would probley run out of room

OK, for those interested in doing the dunes at Silver Lake here's some info.

There are several places to stay in that area but the most reasonable I've found (for what you get) is this one: http://www.silverlakeresortandcamp.com/rates.php
Especially the cabins, which would be a hoot if we got several side-by-side. We could have joint bbq's and campfires. To see the cabins, click on Amenities at the website. There are 14 cabins available.

I called the campground to get some skinny on renting cabins. Bottom line, if we want to wait until the last minute (say a week ahead of time to see what the weather should be like) the only possible openings will be for Tues, Wed, Thurs. Forget weekends unless you book early, and holiday weekends are even worse.

So here's the deal. We can all agree on a date(s), make reservations, and take our chances with the weather OR come up with a couple dates and wait till the last minute (ie a week ahead of time) to decide. I'm self-employed so can be very flexible but realize that a "last minute" situation won't work (especially mid-week) for those with a regular job.

I'd be willing to coordinate an outing along with Renegade363 at Silver Lake, and even hit on the campground for a discount if we get several commitments.

What do y'all think?

Well, I think we are still trying to decide which destination will be the "BIG" outing. After we decide that, maybe someone from Michigan can start organizing a more local run to one of the other destinations.

I have added a poll for some possibale dates. Please vote, everyone.

This would be the better thing to go with. Most can only make it on the weekends. Hey if it rains we can find other things to do. Even go out and get really full of mud :D

Whoops. I was trying to work around 4th of july weekend and didn't pay attentio to father's day. Not an important holiday to me - I try not to make a big deal out of greeting card holidays at my house. I know it will definitely be important to others.

Yes there does seem to be

We should concentrate on Silver Lake and Carrieville State Forest Campground
Those two places seem to have to most interest right now.

Drummond is something that can be worked on in the fall, see if we can make it a guided tour

I personally want to go to Carrieville and do some camping. However, I can't go June 24th or July 8th.

what is the plan? I think a cool idea would be to find a good place to wheel during the day and pitch a tent and camp at night, a real wilderness experience.... just a thought..

So I only have a stock liberty sport; would I be so limited by this that I couldn't go on a trail run with you guys? Im from Ann Arbor, 20 years old, never gone 4x4ing, but I have hit silver lake before but I went on my dirtbike (which was so insanely fun) and Im a little concerned about taking the liberty out on that. What kind of damage will the sand do? Does that void any warrenties?

If I get the ok from you guys Im all over it.

Do you have the mopar skid plates? If so, you only have to be careful about the tranny for any large rocks or objects sticking up. A stock Liberty does pretty well and a modified one does even better.

Damage can always happen, even if your mofified. You just assess the risk at each obstacle you encounter. If your not comfortable with it, don't do it. I've seen stock Liberty's go through a lot.

Expect scratches, especially on MI trails!

PM Me. I was thinking this was the Badlands thread. I will not be on the Michigan run, but we may be able to work out shipping.

Hey Sean,
I am up in Pinckney. Let me know if you need a hand installing those.
