hay guys I have a question for everyone ? I have a 2005 lib with 6 speed and tow package. Can pull this. I have read so many diffrent things 'm not sure what to believe. and remember I canadian so its iin pounds.. ( lol) http://travelstarrv.com/expandable_specifications.html

The short answer is “YES”. However, it wont be easy to tow in mountainous areas. If you're looking at short weekend trips, then it should be doable. If you plan to drive across the country, then it might become cumbersome. Don’t let me discourage you, but at the same time, I don’t want you to think it’s going to be easy. You’ll probably want to make a few modifications to your rig to ensure proper handling and efficiency.

Technically (legally?) speaking you're over the book rating for the stick shift. 3500# is the listed max. that being said the GVWR is just shy of 5000# and your "empty" weight is just over 3600#. Do I think you'll be able to tow it? absolutely. If I were doing it what would I do? anti-sway would be almost a must since the thing is a rolling barn in all directions. And it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyways) you should triple-check everything on the jeep before towing that sucker any distance.

Beyond that, I say go for it.

I decided not to buy it. it was just to close, the deal included torsion bars and electronic brakes but i just did not want to chance killing the tranny yet... lol

Good on you for not going outside your comfort zone. Personally I think you'd have been fine, assuming you modified your driving style appropriately, but I generally like to follow the rule that if it don't feel right (especially if that inner voice is shouting REALLY LOUDLY) you probably should back away and take another look at things.

The KJ really isn't designed for towing heavy loads. It can do it, but it's not designed for towing. I use my Dodge Truck to tow my camper. When towing, I hardly know that the camper is behind me for the simple fact that's what the truck is designed to do. The Jeep is perfect for towing small trailers and light loads. I am outfitting my KJ to tow my camper for nearby trips, but I wouldn't take it across country pulling the camper.

If your KJ was a CRD with auto trans then yes yes even towing cross country set up proper should be ok. even with a gasser V6 and automatic it would be ok but in mountains things might get tough. the manual trans is not set up for much towing. try to start from a stop on a hill with that hitched up would be hard on your clutch.
