Im just under the impression that if you can't take the time out of your day to spell out "you're" then you wont have the patience to deal with whatever disaster you have planned for your liberty. Turning a car into something it shouldn't be can be cool, but this is no better then the guys who put exhausts and cold air intakes onto their civics.

Ok ... I'll be one of the cheerleaders! GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to see something like this:

Keep the one you have now the way it is. You'll need something to tow the new one to the strip with.

Start with a 2WD first, Then ... drop in the V8, slam it down 4" from the ground, strip the interior out, 9" Ford rear, 4.10's, Tub it, nice wide meats under the rear in those widened wheelwells, chop the top 4... maybe 5", complete custom dash with all new gauges since you'll be doing away with the KJ PCM, full interior cage, racing buckets ...... and go from there!!!

Whatever floats your boat!! It'll still be a KJ, just not one that some on here may appreciate. But I'm sure you'll have fun with it in a couple years when you get all that done! 8) A V8 is definitely not a small or inexpensive project tho' ........ Take my word for it!!

The 3.7 held up for a year in mine with a 75 hp shot. Of course, a tuning mistake with a 125 hp shot broke a couple valves and scorched a couple cylinders. It was fun to play with while I was waiting for a good lift kit to come out.

Dropped a new motor in and Frankenlifted it. With the computer, ported heads, custom torque converter, shift reprogramming kit, 4.10's, dtt, cold air hood, ported throttle body, headers, and exhaust, it really runs well with the 245/75R16's. It's what I wanted in the first place. There just weren't many parts out for the KJ's when I bought mine a decade ago so I played around a little while waiting. I like my KJ so much more now that it's built into a real Jeep.

How you liking the headers? I have been thinking about getting some for my jeep to prepare for an eventual engine build.

Honestly if time and money werent a problem I would love to see a fully bored, built and super charged 3.7l with 33s IFS or a solid axle with 35s. Would haul and still rip through trails. That, IMHO, is the perfect KJ (or a modded CRD).

i think you should keep it the way it is...be happy its running now...because when my engine went on it, i just fixed it with the original 3.7 and save my $ up now for a rainy day :2cents:

I've heard a lot of talk about swapping the rear axle out, but honestly the ford 8.8 wouldn't be a bad choice, i mean it's cheap and with a little modification (super 8.8 or so) it would be more than capable for the job of hurling a kj down the strip... but def. gonna need the v8 swap... might i suggest the 6.1L hemi??? ur starting with 425 big ones and you can go up from there...

could even go modular, retain prospects of future SFA, kill a bird with a stone or two and use a rear dana

not that you couldn't do SFA using ford axles.. just.. .. just saying i guess..

prospect of getting bigger brakes, heftier housing etc, i tend to design around keeping future options as cost effective as possible for conversion in a different direction

on the same stone, can go to 4.56's on the 8.25, pretty sure there's upgraded axles available, put a detroit on it and find out how hard you gotta romp on it to break it

with JBA25 or bds / ome rear springs and stock front springs it'll have a nasty rake to it :P

Image

you think ya get funny looks, stares, and gawks after people in town see your jeep lifted for the first time..

yeah.. I had to go to get the front spring compressor wall unit.. other than looking at the ground while driving, the rear end being about 2 1/2 " wider than the front, it drove weird.. looked weird..

but i couldn't stop laughing, just looks like you're slamming on brakes.. ALL the time.. :P

figured i'd throw out some visuals for the discussion, would give ya some decent weight transfer :P

A 8.8 would be a poor choice for drag racing unless you weld the tubes. The 9" would be much better choice with unlimited aftermarket options all the way to 40-spline axles.
