Greetings, I purchased my 05 CRD last weekend with 66k miles. Now that I've read and reread the forums and driven it could enough, I'm appreciating that my 05 has early torque converter shudder syndrome. My question is:
1. Should I pay the $150 transfer fee to get the 7/70 warranty transferred to my name (I'm the second owner) even though I only have about 3k miles left (I drive ALOT, so this will go quick)? I'd do it if I was certain the Jeep would replace the TC with the new (better) TC.
2. For those that have recently gone to jeep with TC shudder, that didnt have F37 (no sticker and it shifts into 5th right at 60mph), will Jeep replace the TC or will the F37 it (flash and whatever)?
3. What about putting the $150 into a different extended warranty (like GE or whatever)?
4. For those that did 7/70 transfer, how long did it take until you got word back that you have it and can use it?

Thanks

$100 deductable on 7/70 warranty so your looking at $250 to get anything done. Not worth it for 3,000 miles unless something crazy happens. F-37 is a recall and you can get it done at anytime regardless of age or mileage for nothing.F-37 includes flash, torque converter, and a pump if you need it.

Extended warranty is your call. I wish I had bought one.

F37 only replaced tc's on those made before November 2, 2005  After that you only got the flashes to the tcm and ecm...

If yours was made before 11/2005 the original TC would have failed years ago. The original ones (pre 11/2/05) died very quickly in just a few thousand miles. They replaced them with the same ones that were in those made after 11/2/05 and that IS NOT the so called Euro tc that was developed for the newer VM engine that produces more power.
I also heard that Chrysler is no longer replacing them with the "euro" version because it requires some formality with the feds. But I don't know this for a fact but several tried and were refused :furious:

06 only came with a 36/36k warranty and I got their 7/70 gold extended warranty. So far I'm a little ahead. Euro TC, new front pump and steering rack :SOMBRERO:

First, get a full VIP report to see if you actually HAVE a 7/70.

Next, confirm that you are the second owner. (Not transferable to third owner.)

Pay transfer fee by a check that you will get back the cancelled original.

Enjoy the benefits.

Chrysler MaxCare 7/100 we bought cost $2400, but we have gotten over $10,000 in repairs covered.

The "euro" TC became the OEM replacement TC around 2.5 years ago. However, some seem to have had difficulty with getting it installed recently during warranty repairs. If you run into this, consider buying the TC from a mopar discount parts seller and have the dealer install it.

Many '05s didn't come with the 7/70 powertrain (leased vehicles, fleet, program, etc.). And, it is ONLY transferrable to the second owner.

In addition, even if the VIP says you have the factory powertrain 7/70, and you pay that $150 fee and get another VIP with your name on it showing the warranty active...

Their computer system can decide at some point that you really DON'T have that warranty, remove it (change it to say 3/36) and all you will get from Chrysler Corporate is questions as to "How did you get that VIP report? How do you have that in hard copy? You aren't supposed to have that!"

And they will do nothing for you. It benefits THEM to erase your warranty or deny servicing it, never forget that.

Us old folks here remember your unfortunate personal warranty experience, but many have had good results with transferring the 7/70 on their '05s. For only $150, it is hardly much of a gamble.

I'm amazed that anyone still even has the option of getting that transfer, much less would be interested in doing it with only 3000 miles left to run.

For the money, yes it is cheap... But honestly what are the odds on a COVERED failure within that tiny period?

I specify covered, b/c I also had some fun trying to get Mopar to disclose exactly what was covered under that warranty as I was buying the CRD and then after the purchase. I never did get anything in writing that I was asking for...

Before the purchase, that warranty covered "anything related to making the vehicle move" up to and including, apparently, replacement of vehicle suspension components.

After the purchase... That dealership that was so helpful before... Wouldn't even read and resolve my first code about the EGR, claiming that wasn't covered by any warranty.

Maybe I just had the bad luck to keep asking at dealerships in the South that knew they couldn't be held accountable to anyone for shafting a customer, but it hasn't helped my opinion of Chrysler Corporate what their system did either. People need to be warned about this kind of crap because it is WRONG, and the only way any corporation feels pain is in the wallet. Without pain, they will never change.
