Straight piped

Just got the CRD straight piped with 2.5". Sounds a lot better, lower groan but not obnoxious by any means. Definitely feels torquier and quicker! Can hear the turbo a lot more too!

I am assuming you got rid of the OEM flange after the CAT?

My results weren't as impressive. Noisier, a tad more power, and maybe like 1/4 MPG better. I still think it's worth it, but I expected more. I think I will add a Glass Pack to change the tone slightly.

what exactly did ya use to straight pipe it? I just got my 06 two weeks ago and looking to free it up. read the noob guide, but no real insight on what to do. site needs a sticky for each item, map maf egr crank case vent........ where in the first post is a step by step.

I left my cat in. Was worried about droning issues with it straight piped. Could you get a vid?

On my liberty I drove the rear up on ramps then I just cut the muffler out. Then measure the muffler. Cut a straight piece of 2.5" aluminum pipe to the measurement. I had extra pipe at home but I'm sure you could have a muffler shop cut one for ya. As I was welding the pipe back in I tacked it first to make sure no rubbing issues then finished it up. When and if I do the cat delete I'll do it the same way as the muffler delete.

Yes, had it cut right after the resonator flange and then welded in a straight stainless 2.5" pipe. Really impresses actually with the results. Nothing mind blowing, but way more than I thought.

I've long considered a mufflerectomy. I just haven't managed to force the issue on the trail...

I can get a video if you'd really like. I am not sure how to upload it and I'm not sure if it will truly give the exhaust noise justice. Trust me, it is just barely louder than stock, and much improved flow and the noise is just a deeper, nice noise.

Did the same thing on my 05 expt I cut after the muffle clamp and wielded new pipe this way if I need to add small muffler for inspection reason I can just cut the new pipe after clamp and add muffler oh on the back I did 45 angle cut from pipe I had sitting around and added a tip so it’s comes outa back and painted it black.

Local muffler shop is straight-piping mine tomorrow.
They are going to cut it after the flange in case I want
to put the muffler back on in the future.

$60 was their quote..........

Picked up the Jeep tonight, they did a great job!!
I am surprised at how quiet it still is, just a hint of rumble,
I like the tone..... Can hear the turbo better..........

I was straight piped, but emissions testing every year made me tired of putting the muff back on once a year. I got a high flow muffler and still like the set-up. The insides of my cat blew out somehow?? The only problem I've run into is removing the transmission and no longer being able to remove the muffler from the cat back. It was just annoying.

Did some tests with a boost gauge hooked up in the down pipe right behind the turbo and posted the info. The stock muffler is way too restrictive and can cause over 5PSI of back pressure with a stock tune. The flange on the rear of the CAT is another problem, get rid of it or open it up. Not even the worst A.H.H. who is a Regulation Composing Lawyer for the EPA or CARB would not have a problem with replacing a stock exhaust flange, it can not effect emissions. If the flange replacement case ever went to Court, even a Four Year Old Kid who watches Judge Judy would win the case against the EPA Lawyer and they know it, that is why it will never happen. :ROTFL:

Mufflers are under the jurisdiction of State and Local Laws not the Feds.
