Anyone know the part number for the fuel filter for a 2002 Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) 2.5 CRD? I'll be in the US in October and was hoping to pick one up, but I think its different from the 2.8 filter and am confused as to which to order. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Don't know a part number - the pictures look like a Racor
if that's true - the Jeep dealers won't have them - but some boat dealers will

This was the install guide for 2.8's - he mentions a source

Stan also has photos and installhttp://liberty.eurekaboy.com/racor.htm

but you might just Google Racor and see if anyone's close.

This was Tony's comment

If you can find the part number in the fiches it can be ordered via Jeep in the US, but you will need to find the part number for it first.

I could be wrong but looking at the 2002 FSM and 2003 Parts material that Sir Sam has via the NOOB guide it looks like a standard spin on filter without a water in fuel sensor. If that's the case try to find out the specs for the filter particularly the fluid capacity, bypass pressure, the inner/outer diameter of any gaskets, and the mounting thread size. If you can find like a WIX filter that matches the thread size and is close enough on the other 2 measurements you probably use it.

Just a wild guess makes me wonder if the 2.8l CRD filter would work if one just left the WIF port at the bottom plugged with the plug that comes with the filter?

Just a thought that may be a total bust.

Warp machined an adapter to put a Racor on a stock head

and since a stock Racor fits on Tony's 2.5 liter fuel head - that's a reasonable indicator that the 2.8 and 2.5 fuel head have different threads.

Cool. I'm going to go ahead and order the Racor R20S and see if it fits. Will report back once I have it in hand and, hopefully, installed.

Still going with no fuel or air leaks. :) :)
