Hi Losties,

So I noticed this tube hanging from the underside of my CRD yesterday:

...and I followed the other end to what felt like a breather-type opening on the top of the transfer case.

I looked at my parts fiche and it seems as if it's some sort of breather tube. It has this interesting fixture on the opposite end as well as indentations from a hose clamp:

Anyone have any idea as to where this is and what it was attached to? I used some zip ties to affix it to the underside of the carriage & am wondering what else is going to fall off.

Similar tubes off the rear differential run up high on the body. I suspect this is supposed to run up somewhere on the engine firewall or up high on the tranny tunnel. Unfortunately I cannot see it from either under the vehicle or down thru the engine compartment. I imagine the end fixture is like a splash shield to let air in but not water.

the thing on the end is to let it breath but not allow massive amount of stuff into the end, just zip tie it up as high as you can.
