Been having the P0714 code pop up since purchased the CRD. I typically clear it and go about my way for up to two to three weeks. Recently it has been popping up almost every other day. The Transmission will go into "limp mode" (i.e. no lockup, overdrive, hard shift between 2-3, etc). I has been doing relative.y good this summer especially with the Texas heat in the DFW area. Yes I've done;

1.) Read Noob Guide, :goink:
2. ) Used the search tool, :juggle:
3.) Checked the wiring,
4.) Fluid level is good,
5.) Installed Lift Pump to get rid of air in fuel (interesting threads on air-in-fuel actually causing this problem),
6.) Runs great until it gets in this mode, so I don't think it is a mechanical problem,
7.) Searched using Dogpile, Google, etc. Found one thread about Dodge having faulty solenoid units in the 54R tranny. The "new" units have white connectors, the old black connectors
8.) Have installed a tranny cooler.
9.) Do have original F37 curse and original recalled replaced TC.

May be time to replace solenoid module unless anyone has had this issue and fixed it?

Thanks

If you have a 2006 CRD check the wiring harness where it goes behind the fuel filter head for problems. Do not know if this is related but there have been reports that the harness routing is different than on the 2005 models and that the routing is "tighter" with a sharp edge to turn. Pull down a copy of the 2006 FSM (it has the diagnostic codes the 2005 FSM lacks) from Sir Sam's NOOB guide link and look at the diagnostics for that code (begins on page 21-88) which involve 1) a bad solenoid; 2) PCM problems; and 3) possible wiring problems.

The difference in that area is on 06 models the bracket the fuel filter is on is higher to clear the larger ABS/ESP pump. The bracket has a section of the edge rolled over to prevent rubbing where the wire passes under but with the bracket mounted higher it hits below the rolled section. If the wire is not worn through it's a good idea to slit a section of 1/4" fuel line and slip it over the sharp edge :BANANA:

Its a 2005. I did check the harness around the EGR and found the original looming crumpled and falling apart. I covered with a split heater hose. The wiring did not appear to be chaffed. I did notice last night I have the transmission module with the "white" connector. The lever that holds the connector was broke. I guess it is possible the connector worked itself off enough to look like an open on that circuit, doubtful, but....I will need to secure it with tie wraps. I reseated the connector and drove in to work with no problems.....Could the engine temp wiring be shorting causing this? Will trace that harness down to.....Thanks

Just a follow up so if anyone searches for P0714 code this might help. I replaced my transmission control solenoid with part #5170877AF ($225) from Mopar Wholesale. I have driven daily for a week and have not had anymore P0700 (ECM) or the P0714 (TCM) code or limp mode. :BANANA: I may jinx it now but so far so good. The job was easier than I thought it would be. Messy as usual but do-able. Now that appears to be fixed on to the TB. By the way this is a super site.........Keep On Jeepin :JEEPIN: Thanks!
