I did it!!! I got two batteries (Optoma) mounted under the hood of my KJ CRD. So it can be done. Lots of fabbing and fitting (taking out the old tray and replacing it with a custom one). But it's in there! So it can be done. WOO HOO!!!

Two small Odyssey batteries would be nice.

Oz has been doing this for a while
http://piranhaoffroad.com.au/index.php/default/battery-trays/battery-tray-btjkjd.html

although I always liked this note
Quote:
WARNING: THIS TRAY IS EXTREMELY HARD TO FIT SOME
PARTS REQUIRE FABRICATION.
IT IS NOT FOR RESALE/SELF FIT AND ADVISE AGAINST
ATTEMPTING UNLESS WORKSHOP IS EQUIPPED.

I'll get pics next week. I promise!

As for why, isn't "because" sufficient?

Seriously, I have a winch and I also like to camp. When I run the cooler, it kills the main battery pretty fast. Last time I was camping, I ran the battery down so low that I needed to find a jump. Which wasn't hard. But I don't like being in that position. So duals seemed like the logical choice.

The Isolator I chose was the BIC-95300B from Hellroaring. It's right on it's limit if I have to "jump" the KJ. But I think it's a great device.

On the matter of the Optimas, I haven't had bad luck with them at all. But, I know what you mean. The odysseys would've been a great choice. And I may still go that way eventually. But I had an abundance of Optimas available. So it seemed like a good idea.

I have to paint it (which is why it's coming back out). But it's made completely of bed-frame steel. Hey. It's what I had on hand and it worked out pretty well. But I will say this. Oz's comment about it being hard to fit is an understatement! It's a righteous PITA!!! But it works.

I'm beginning to know this thing like the back of my hand (one blown up engine already and several transmission mods... Does it ever end?)

Stay tuned for pics next week!

BTW, does anyone have a nice place to host the pics?
