Did some searching but hundreds of post about CRD fuel filter stuff. To my understanding the fuel filter and fuel pump on my 06 gasser are part of the same unit and is not serviceable. So does that mean to change out the filter I have to buy the whole freaking unit ? Has anyone done a mod to internally by pass it and install and aftermarket filter ?

After '04 the gas KJ's fuel filter and pump are one unit and must be replaced as one unit.Be lucky you don't own a prius as to replace the fuel filter or pump you must replace the whole gas tank as one unit.

I don't see any reason to replace the fuel filter anyways. I've never heard of one going bad unless someone dumps sh** down your tank. Being that they aren't burning the fuel as well there should not be any substantial deposits, but i'd love to see the inside of a dirty one that had been cut open. Anyone have pics?

Should have seen what mine looked like at 30k  ,and again at 60k  .I don't buy cheap gas either, only well kept up stations.

Can't tell you how many "cranks,no start" tow-in's I've diagnosed with plugged fuel filters, all makes and all models.

Not that I don't have enogh projects going on but I'm actually thinking about picking one up off of ebay and see if I can figure something out just to see. Just like the oil filter, pcv valve, air filter im used to also changing out the fuel filter. Dont understand why engineers would place it in the tank instead of somewhere around the firewall or underneath the vehicle somwhere ??? I

In a time when more people are fixing their own vehicles they gotta keep the jeep mechanics busy and the money flowing. (obviously they did a bad job of keeping the money coming)
