Hi-

I was a YJ guy up until a few years ago and its time to get behind a seven slot grill again. When/if my truck sells I am leaning heavily towards a Liberty CRD. I want a smaller suv that gets good mileage and can tow a small boat and some sleds around. So I feel the Liberty is the way to go. I will be spending only about $10,000 so i will be buying one that probably has around 100k on it. Besides the timing belt and TC what else should i be looking at for poteintial problems. Also how hard is it to find Limited CRD's? Since I'll be buying a vehicle that was made in 05 or 06 how are the bodies holding up, any certain areas that start to rust early?

Thanks
Kevin

Welcome aboard or potentially aboard. Read Sir Sam's NOOB guide for lots of background. Look at his fuel head bleeding video for a picture of the 2n gen fuel filter head which is a good thing to have (a DIY project but parts run ca. $125. Samco turbo>intercooler>engine hoses are good to have; they come in bright colors as opposed to the standard black OEM and cost ca. $250; if the vehicle has OEM hoses and they are spongy and oil soaked you will need new ones. Timing belt, serpentine belt, and maybe water pump need doing at 100,000; depending on what you replace parts run $200-600; it's a DIY project if you are an experienced wrench hand and careful especially if you are near a member who has done the job otherwise parts and labor are in the $1300-1500 range if, a big if, you can find a shop that can handle the job. Other than the above look at the usual stuff.

I've not seen or heard of body problems although if I was buying where salt is used on winter roads I'd want to see the under side of the vehicle on a lift.

More Sports out there than Limited but I had no problem replacing my Sport (rear ended by a dump truck) with a low mileage Limited and we easily found a low mileage Limited for my son (stoutdog) both within 250 miles of home but that was a couple of years ago. That said there is forum mention from time to time of really good deals on low (ca. 45K) mileage CRDs for a decent price and no you cannot have mine or stoutdog's (both ca. 40K).

Cannot offer much comment on price ranges though but check out the on-line buying sites and you might touch base with Sir Sam who seems to be in the buy/rebuild to correct mechanical issues game to some extent, in fact he just sold one.

Thanks for all the info. The Noob write up is great too. I do consider myself mechanically inclined so all the tasks including the TB shouldn't be a problem for me. I really hope I can sell my truck quick....already getting excited about having a Jeep again even if it isn't a wrangler or CJ. As of right now the closest CRD for sale is about 150 miles from me not too bad but not close. I am in north central IL so if anyone has one close by for sale let me know.
