Timing Belt Time!!!

Well, I'm at it as I write this, so far so good. Ripped out most of what hangs in front, except for the condenser/trans oil cooler. When cranking to find correct timing, since I do not have the special tools, I devised my own, made from 2 small plates linked with a bolt. They slide perfectly between cam gear teeth on top and bottom. I took some pics, so as soon as I'm done, I'll post them here...

Please post pics...... As that tool is the most expensive at 350$ish. Although many of us have done the TB without loosening the cam bolts per GDE instructions. This step is needed if your cams are properly locked with cam pins and you put your new belt on and one or both cams are 1/2 degree off (half a tooth). By locking in place with the expensive tool and loosening cam bolts it will relieve that tension and the belt will sit even. Not performing this step can lead to improper wear and decreased life of the belt.

I did not require this step. I've heard of people breaking loose the cam bolts ( 80ft/lbs )with just the cam pins and that just scares me.

When I did mine I cut 2 pieces of wood wedges and place them on the cam sprocket to hold them, worked pretty good and cost nothing, and did the job of the 300+ cam holder tool. Ill try to load a pic but I don't know how to

Funny, that's exactly what I did with two pieces of wood to keep the cams lined up.

What is the width of your metal plates dynopax???? Why the slight cut out on the one plate????

Plates were approx. 1.25/5 inches wide, can't recall exactly... I had these lying around in a drawer, for whatever use, I do not know! But I figured they'd come in handy. I had to trim down one of the plates to ensure it would be a snug fit between the camgear teeth...
