My wife just informed me of an idiot light in her CRD. It seems to resemble a lightning bolt. Does anyone know what this is?

Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light

From the owners manual:

Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light — If Equipped

This light informs you of a problem with the
Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem
is detected the light will come on while the
engine is running. Cycle the ignition key when
the vehicle has completely stopped and the gear selector
is placed in the P (Park) position. The light should turn
off. If the light remains lit with the engine running your
vehicle will usually be drivable, however, see your dealer
for service as soon as possible. If the light is flashing
when the engine is running, immediate service is required
and you may experience reduced performance, an
elevated/rough idle or engine stall and your vehicle may
require towing. The light will come on when the ignition
is first turned on and remain on briefly as a bulb check.
If the light does not come on during starting, have the
system checked by an authorized dealer.

I believe that one goes off if you use the brake and the trottle at the same time.

Mine will blink that light and the check engine light a single time, with a single chime, if I am hard on the accelerator (b/c my dang turbo is messed up) and then snap off from the pedal. I usually am swapping to the brake, but I think it sometimes does it even without the brake - Just releasing the gas from about 50-60% pressed by moving your foot sideways off the pedal.

Doesn't always do it, but I think it relates to the computer being annoyed about the bad turbo performance just like I am, and usually the turbo starts being the snottyest in heavy traffic. Of course, the traffic around here also is incapable of driving properly, so they are ALL accelerating and jamming on their brakes, CONSTANTLY. These people must have mastered the physics principal of traveling great distances while remaining stopped. I never learned it that way.

I had this problem. Never could figure it out. Replaced the throttle sensor with no luck. Finally I decided to zip tie the wiring harness that runs along the firewall in the engine bay. Secured it enough to not bounce around. Haven't had the problem since so I figured it was a wire touching metal and grounding out.
