Hey Guys,

Many of you know that I am using my CRD for the job. Today, Tuesday was Day 2. My GM took one look at mine and said "Cool !! I want one. Find one for me."

I drove an '05 Sport earlier today and another guy at work drove an '05 Limited that he was near. NEITHER of these CRDs had a working odometer! What gives?!?!

Does the ECM record the mileage even though the odometer may not? How can this be fixed?
The odometer on my CRD works fine and as far as I know is accurate.

Thanks for the insight,

Hoosier CRD

I'm pretty sure it's drive by the sensor at the rear differential.
the wires tend to have issues, and it'll cause problems with the ESC/Antilock stuff too.

Lots of chat about this issue on the forum see for example viewtopic.php?f=5&t=57905&hilit=odometer+sensor

As I understand it the 2005 has a single rear sensor and 1 on each of the front wheels while the 2006 and sensors on all 4 wheels. A bad sensor or a break in the sensor wire causes the odometer to not work. The fix is generally not expensive (new sensor(s) or wire repair) but tracking down the location of the problem can be a pain.

The ECU stores odometer mileage but NOT if the odometer is not working because sensor(s) are dead. Translation = when the problem is fixed the odometer will begin report mileage but starting from the point where it stopped (same as in the old days if the odometer/speedometer cable broke)

Okay,

That explains it pretty well then. Come to think of it, the ABS light was on in the one I drove. I think the ABS light was also on for the other one. In any event, it scared off the boss from any interest in these two CRD examples.

Thanks for the explanation, gentlemen.

Shouldn't really scare anyone. In fact is a good "reduce the price significantly" negotiation tool.
