I cut out the exhaust after the Catalytic converter and straight piped it to where it bends up over the back axle. I've got to say, that was the dumbest thing I could've done and I'm glad that I kept the old muffler because the sound is terrible!

Also, did the CCV reroute to the back axle with a filter on the end of the hose.

Oh yeah, and I had 2 universal joints replaced in the rear driveline that got rid of the vibration at 45-50 mph. This was all done in the last week. But now I've got a hesistation/surge when the rpm's are low and I'm just cruising....I'm thinking this has to do with a plugged EGR valve.

I just purchased this CRD a little over a month ago and I'm starting to have some serious buyer's remorse!

unplug the maf to see if it is the EGR clogged, it entirely disables the EGR system. As for the straight piping, its preference really, I love it because it makes it sound like an actual diesel instead of some clogged up motor.

Did you cut off the stock flange after cat? If so, you are on the right track! Now just put in a cheap glass pak muffler and that annoying farting noise will be gone!

How does this compare to the GDE tune you were running?

I unplugged the MAF and the hesitation/surge at low rpm cruising has gone away completely now. So I guess I know that the EGR is clogged. I think I'll leave it like this until I can get an SEGR kit and block-off plate for the EGR system. As for the exhaust, I do need to find a replacement muffler because the farting sound is kind of annoying when the vehicle is at idle. Thanks for your help.

Changed the brakes all the way around on Sat. Front pads were gone @ 76K, rears were changed once before.

Then Sat night, right rear window dropped down. popped the door panel off & proped it up with a stick for now till I look at it.

It was a long weekend with my new CRD

-OME 790's and Blistein 916's in the front with extended teraflex bump stops. - These replaced stock coils and shocks with a spacer. The previous owner modified the top mounts (it looks like he lowered the mounting point of the shock, possibly to help the shock not top out with the new lift???). I only discovered this after dropping the assembly. $150 later, i have new upper mounts as well.

-New front rotors and pads

-Started installing new speakers while retaining the stock amps. I put screw through the amp and now im searching for a cheap replacement.

Last weekend i put a new alternator pulley on, new air filter, and cleaned the MAP sensor.

Next weekend ill hopefully finish the speakers.

Install new front hitch
look for leaks and what not, check on drip coming from turbo/intake area.

Front brakes at 84,400 miles. Wife drove it while I was recovering from knee surgery... she likes the stereo loud and didn't hear anything... first time I drive it for 2 weeks and sccrrreeeeccchhh!!!! Metal on metal.

So I decided to try the Raybestos R300 rotors. I found them for a great deal...

Image

They look great with the open wheels I have. 3 months ago I put new rear rotors on that are already rusting and ugly- so far the R300s are holding up well even though my sprinklers give them a direct hit every night in the driveway.

Used Bendix pads. Justified the extra expense because of the heavy trailers we pull. Will report back if they are worthwhile or a waste. Stops do seem smoother and quieter...but that may be buyers bias.

Augh what a day with the KJ CRD.

Oil service
installed old Fumoto valve
new brake pads, Hawk HPS pads, EBC Yellows lasted less than 10K Grrrr($134)
Speed Bleeders install with fluid change
Curt front hitch, what a PITA, 4.5 hrs install. Well 4hrs of cutting the front bumper to hell and 30min to install it all.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I have some photos I will post later of all the cutting.

Turbo is leaking, looks like from the oil feed, hard to see in this photo but runs dow n the inlet of the turbo.

I noticed the other day that when I was under my CRD that I have a similar leak and I too thought it was either from the drain tube or the oil feed. Mine looked just like in your picture. If you figure it out, please let us know. Thanks.

I honestly can't tell anything from the photo. If you think that the turbo is leaking oil from the oil feed/inlet area, 1) put a socket on the banjo bolt and see if it is snug/tight. 2) You may also wish to replace the banjo bolt washers, P/N 04720713; 2 required. 3) Remove the air inlet tubing coming from the air filter. Reach inside the turbo, find and firmly hold the center nut at the compressor wheel. Try to move the shaft up, down, sideways. Do you notice a large amount of free play? Some amount of free play is okay. The compressor wheel should not touch the compressor housing. The comp wheel should also spin freely.

If you see alot of oil coming from the air intake hose, check the PVC system to make sure that you don't have a large amount of oil being deposited by it into the fresh air stream. This is why the EHM is needed.

Hope this helps.

My engine and turbo have less than 6000 miles on them and a 100,000 mile warranty, I am not touching anything!

I kind of hoped there would be a "what did you do" thread in the torque room...

Yesterday I fell in love with my new CRD.

Last week I acquired an 06 Ltd with only 53000kms, 33000 miles, garage kept, and virtually new inside. After farting around that town with my family for a week, I brought the Jeep home. 1000 miles :JEEPIN: through the Rocky Mountains and ALL I have to say is "if they only knew..". If the general population had half a clue how great diesels are to drive, there would be just as much variety available here as overseas!!!

now that the new toy is home, today it got, inspected, registered and insured, now its time to start shopping: GDE, Provent, skids and a lift to name just a few for the coming year

Since the CEL came on from washing the MAP (i think... but need the scanner to be sure....) Can anyone else offer a better idea than to toss keith @GDE the 300$ for his code grabber / tune tool??) I am looking at a price of 350$ for a full featured scanner locally, so how do his compare to the others on the market for features and ........???? thoughts??

I did my timing belt Saturday, what a PITA! I was also gonna fix my intercooler, but unfortunately after I got it all clean I found out that my JB weld was all dried up. I ended up putting it back together, and didn't get it glued. I will be taking it back apart this weekend to fix it if there's no SNOW!

Yesterday the Jeep started right up all day. Today it would not start with a jump. I purchased a new Red Top Battery with a 3 year warranty. It started right up. I figure it will die when I need my next new timing belt and water pump at 200k miles. That will probably be about 3 years.
