Actually it's a good thing for several reasons
First besides when the AC button is pressed it should only run in "Bi-Level", Heat or Heat/Defrost and Defrost
How many times do you get in with snow or rain on your shoes in the winter and soak the carpet that in turns causes the floor to rust? Having the AC run when heating directs dehumidified warm air to the floor drying the carpet. Is that a bad thing?
Next you get into your cold jeep along with your significant other on a cold day. The warm humid air you breath out fogs up the windows. The dehumidified air from the defroster dries the inside of the glass.
As I remember cars have been this way since the late 1960's
It used to be recommended to run the AC randomly in the winter to keep the compressor seal lubricated. Who remembered to do that on a regular basis.
If you don't want the compressor running just select the vent position and direct them downwards
