So I was thinking today that since i got larger tires, my stock tire size spare is no longer worth while to me. Is it worth removing it? the saved weight MAY have some sort of an affect on my dwindeling gas mileage. But my thought is will it throw off the balance of the vehicle, being that its centered under the rear of the vic. And if its removed will it allow for more "sag" from the gas tank side?

Curious what the thoughts of the group are.

Remove it and put in a matching spare(same tire as the 4 on the ground).A spare tire is one thing you don't want to be without,it always comes back and bites you in the rear.

As always tjkj is right. If I didst have my matching full size in rausch I would have been able to get off the trail but my day would have ended at 10 am. Full size spares are entirely worth the extra two hundo

What size tire did you get? I'm pretty sure anything over 30" won't fit under the KK. Someone needs to make a bumper with a tire carrier for us

I think a 245/75/16 is one of the biggest you can fit (yet another reason why they are suggested so much).

of course i will be getting a correct size spare just dont have the doe for now.

But still the original question..is it worth removing until i get a spare and am wheeling.

No. I can't see any kind of justification for removing your spare tire. Even if it is costing you 1 whole mpg, which I can't see it doing, limping home on a mismatched spare is still better than walking or calling a tow truck.

Not sure about weight or balance, but spare tires weigh very little. Any effect removing it might have would probably be nullified by any passengers or gear you are carrying.
