I found an 05 CRD Sport with 115,000 miles at a dealer for $9999. Has not had timing belt done. Service quoted $1300 with water pump. Salesmen said he would meet me in the middle and out the door for $10,600. This is a no hagle shop.

I asked about trading my 00' Blazer ZR2 with 68k original and they would give $4k. I owe $3000 on Blazer and have put $1500 in parts in it so I am loosing money on trade. But I know thats a sunk cost.

So, what I am asking is:

1)$10,600 for 05 CRD Sport with 115K and new timing belt etc. - Is this a fair deal?

2) Should I be worried about transmission with high miles? I am not sure about torque convertor on it yet either.

PS- I lurk here a lot and have been wanting another diesel after dumping my TDI for the Blazer last March. I promise to re-read the Noob guide this weekend.

I just paid 10,500 for my 05 sport with 62,000 here in Chicago. It was a one owner and it still had warranty for 8,000 more miles. The car fax showed that my truck was taken care of. The funny part is that two salesman sold my truck after I signed my paper work. I don't think the miles are anything for the trans. It just getting started. I think your getting a good deal if they are taking care of the belt.

About two months ago I paid $12K for my 05 with 72Kmiles, here in Atlanta, I know it might have been a bit high but it's in great condition, the PO had just put new tires, battery and alternator; has leather seats and they are very hard to come by.

I think you're getting a good deal (that is, if it's in good shape) for the jeep, as far as the trade in, you'll do a lot better on your own.

Every area is different for pricing depending on the market.
Search craigslist, and autotrader and see if there are any CRD's to compare it to.

The 545rfe is one of the best transmissions that chrysler has made. They are reliable so even if for some reason yours would fail which is a slim chance they aren't too expensive to get a used one. At that mileage I would get them to do new filters and a fluid change Mopar ATF+4 which is synthetic and was used from the start back in 1999.

Are they going to have the timing belt replaced? or just give you a discount?

The biggest problem from day one has been finding a mechanic that knows what they're doing.

The dealerships had a 1 hour video that covered all model year 05 changes - including the diesel...so don't assume they can change it.
