Raining today around the Chicagoland area, and what do you know the back window is leaking again.

I call my dearlership, on the list, they are still open but no more warranty work for them, darn oh well.

So I call Zeigler in Schaumburg, IL (i have reasons to not like this place) I talked to the service manage and he tells me to bring it in so they can take a look at it.

I get in and the service writers are like we are really busy today, blah blah blah, and I said I talked to Bill (SM) and he told me to bring it in, so I did.

Well he goes and gets Bill, he brings over his Lead mater Tech and we talk, we look at the rear window and the seal and the Tech thinks we should try to pull out the pinch weld that the gasket attaches too. He believes that air pressure inside during driving is causing enough to life off away from the gasket.

He adjusts the pinch weld, tells me that they test it with him on the inside pushing on the glass while another tech uses a garden hose, no leaks detected. I drive home, check when I get home, no leaks and hardly any water on the seal, I would say water just from opening the windown once the seal to the window was broek, obvious difference.

I hope this is resolved and I may go back to Zeigler again, they actually did something for me and made me feel good about it.

Ok so we are still dealing with this.

In July 2009 the wife was in an accident and we didn't have any leaking problems after that (all damage was on the front end)

We noticed that the seal was starting to rust alot and actually looked like it was causing some damage, so we took it in and the seal was replaced.

Guess what now.......... :banghead:

Its leaking again worse than it was ever before and I am heading back to the dealership in about 10 minutes again for this stupid seal. They claim no one else has come in with this issue at all?
:banghead:

Guess what????

:banghead: :furious: :banghead: :furious:

Window still leaks, raining today and wife said when she came out after work water had already been running down the rear window.

So now what do we do, go to a different dealership or write Chrysler a letter?

Ok so heavy rain has moved through the Chicago area tonight and the wife was at work for part of it and then drove home. When she got home tried to take some pictures and granted not sure if anyone will be able to see this or not but it is leaking BAD, the streaks in the picture that if you look closely you can see are all areas where water has run down the inside of the glass on the rear window.

What the hell do we do now, the dealership that we have been going to orders a new seal and then never calls us to tell us it is in, we schedule an appointment, which means absolutly nothing to get the new seal installed and it takes them hours to get it done, or the Jeep sits for hours before even bringing it into the shop. They "test" it using a garden hose or the car wash which the rear window never shows signs of leaking, I've even tried it at home myself, but when it rains we get doo doo like this that happens.

Don't have to be driving for the window to leak, just being parked outside if it rains hard enough and the streaks will be down the glass.

Tonight my wife said while driving home it wasn't just drips going down the glass an actuall "stream" was down the glass.

The dealership has replaced the seal 4? times I think (need to pull receipts) and adjusted the glass and it still gets no better :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ok the pictures, like I said if you look closely you can see where the water has run down the glass, this is all on the inside however you will see some drops on the outside of the glass.

wingnuts.. i have had my seal and whole window replaced at the same time because it leaked and then some of he coils stopped working for the defroster. On the new window there is a lip on the top to prevent water from getting to the seal. I will try and take a pic for you tomorrow...

wingnuts and all that care.. here are the pictures. Sorry they are a bit late but better late than never:

You can see, its almost like a trough that collects water before it even gets to the seal. I checked my parents 2010 and they do not have this same thing either. It only came with my replacement window. Hope this helps.

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner,

Yes SD-KJ that is what I now have, had to go to a different dealership to get it done, but I got it done I think the day you posted this. Thanks for the info though.

I think this issue is past us now finally!!!

I had the same problem as well. When I made the Appt at the dealer, they wanted me to wait for their "leak guy" who wasn't able to fix it. My alarm kept going off. After two window seals and two gate switches and my insistence that a ase mechanic do it, it hasn't leaked since. One more time and I would've lemon lawed it. (3 times for the same thing under 15,000 miles). It was very frustrating. Before my first Appt to have it fixed, they lost the part order and forgot all about it, that just :banghead:
It's fixed now and I have 11,000 miles on it. :pepper:

Guess what :banghead: leaking AGAIN. I contacted the states attorney general's office and an attorney about Lemmon lawing the jeep. I'll take a new one if they'll give it to me but I have a feeling I'll be getting a new glass. Gotta wait for their leak guy again :furious: :banghead:

OK guys, I too have been dealing with the flipper glass leak.

Mine was leaking so bad that I just said forget cleaning the flipper glass. So I took it in for the leak at one dealership. They replaced the weatherstripping.... with the same part and said that it didn't leak anymore. Two days later, heh, it leaked. Didn't even bother them, I said screw it.

.... until I started to have tailgate latch issues. The water rusted out the tailgate latch. It still worked fine but the sensor was reporting that my tailgate was open, which of course turned on the chime and of course all of the interior lamps. Tried another dealership, the one I usually go to, this is what they said:

"30811 PERFORM DIAG TESTS AND FIND THAT REAR HATCH LATCH IS WATER SOAKED AND AJAR SWITCH IS RUSTED. REPLACE REAR HATCH LATCH ASSEMBLE CLEAN CONNECTOR END AND APPLY GREASE ALSO REPLACE FLIPPER GLASS TO HATCH SEAL DOES NOT MATCH UP IN CENTER CAUSING WATER TO LEAK DOWN TO LKATCH ASSEMBLE CHK OPERATION AFTER REPAIR OK AT THIS TIME TECH.1634"

I got the TSB done, brand new revised seal (which is NOT like the one wingnuts posted, the sealing area is now "ribbed", and I got the little water trough....

It doesn't leak anymore. :) I tested it at the coin wash. It is also harder to close now which is a good thing. I always wondered why it was much easier to close the KK flipper glass in comparison with the KJ's flipper glass. Apparently this is why... easier to close allows water in! To you guys with the leak, don't be surprised if you end up having to replace the tailgate latch in the near future.

I'm on my third gate latch and just got the seal that looks like a gutter. After the traveling "leak specialist" put it on upside down, on a rainy day, outside. He also moved the flipper glass so that the glass seal was touching the window seal (the one on the gate) causing it to leak even more. I finally got fed up and fixed the darn thing myself. I removed the new seal (which was easy to do because as I mentioned it was put on outside in the rain) then reinstalled it so that it looked like a gutter. I then moved the flipper glass back up so that it cleared the other seal. We had a downpour on my way home and it didn't leak a drop. The seal between the gate and the glass was even dry, I've not seen that since I bought it. I think I screwed up my lemon law case but I just couldn't stand the leak anymore. Btw the gate latch is bad again but since the alarm is cleared they said they couldn't do anything about it. I think I'll go to another dealer. This is the kind of crap I would expect from an old car, not a new one but other than the leak thing I really like the car. :banghead: :furious:

Yah! What you said!

I don't know what to do with myself, I'm so happy!

The funny part is that 3 of us in this topic with the leak all have Deep Water Blue Jeeps.

I am still happy to report that we have no leaks.

I am still very skeptical on this thing and am rather anoyed that if it is something that Chrysler knows about why does it continue to happen?

Granted the 2nd dealship that I went to that finally fixed it with the trough seal had not ever heard of the problem and when I took it to them I said it doesn't matter how much you try you cannot get it to leak with a garden hose unless someone pushes the glass out from the inside and then of course it is going to leak..............

Very interesting that we all have the same color.

The same thing is happening on my 09 KK ( as well as my girlfriend's 09 KK). It doesn't leak all of the time but I am also worried that I will have latch problems from the water. When researching this I found that there is a TSB for both the 2008 and 2010 KK but not for the 2009. It would make sense that if they didn't fix it for 2010 they would include the repair on 2009's.The dealer could not duplicate the problem so they did nothing for it. My girlfriend fixed hers by trading it in for a new 2011 Wrangler 4 door. I am keeping my Liberty so I am going to pester the dealer until they fix it. Barring that, does anybody know who to contact at Jeep headquarters to make a complaint?

I called mopar and they said there wasn't a TSB for my vin. I think that's a crock but it still hasn't leaked since the repair. My complaint pretty much fell onto deaf ears but you should call them anyhow, if enough of us call then maybe they'll do something about it. :JEEPIN:
