CRD's lifted!

Well, finally got to it, before winter creeps in and rattles my bones by doing the slow-seizure number on my shocks :goink:

I replaced the OEM struts with KYB's (GR-2 in front, Gas-Adjust in rear), and took the opportunity to install a 1.5" Daystar lift kit as well. Now the Jeep stands almost 2" higher and will probably slightly get lower as lift and new shocks sits in... Love the look but now, it feels like I have a sudden craving for bigger wheels. D...n! I fear I opened a Pandora's box, and possibly my wallet even more :dizzy:

Since I had a budget in mind, I went the cheaper way, lift-wise. That should buy me at least a few years before I go for the "real thing"!

If you get little squares with no pictures and you are using IE 9 try Firefox or Chrome or some such. IE 9 has a problem with pictures here although if I recall you can open the pictures by right clicking on the little squares.

Yep, we are indeed a small bunch up here but, hey, it feels like we are all part of the same family :JEEPIN:

About the ride: It is a bit stiffer, with coils being compressed tighter by the spacer lifts and new struts adding to the mix. It actually better handles tight turns and curves due to said increased stiffness. I have yet to get used to the added height. Also noticed slight squeaking in front, when at very low speed, with suspension traveling ever so slightly. I put this on the account of the spacers still sitting in, should eventually wear off.

There is also a slight vibration from the rear drivetrain when applying throttle from a complete stop, lasts about 2-3 seconds then disappears. I suspect the driveshaft u-joints to be put on more stress, with the differential sitting lower by approx. 2". I'll proceed with replacing these very shortly, besides, at 153000km, they may be due for replacement. Won't hurt, that's for sure!

The front sqweaking may come front the torsion bar! At 153,000KM you need a timing belt change if you haven't already done it! :2cents:

,yes im 100% sure the squeaking comes from the sway bar bushings,lube it and go,you ll be fine,i would also suggest checking out your upper control arms,you know the stories about our libby... :roll:

And TIMING BELT SOON buddy,but just by the look of the jeep,you take care of it,i dont have any doubt about that,thanks for the comments on the ride! :wink:

I actually sprayed some Krown rustproof lube on the iso's and spacers and voilà, no more squeaking! But I'll also try it on the swaybar bushings, thx for the tip...

I did my TB and acc. belt last September, while pulling out the intercooler to check for leaks and/or gunk. It went pretty well, no issues. My outstanding issue now is the battery. The original Redtop is showing signs of wear, as it slowly drops voltage when not in use. Checked for an hour with multi-meter, and it dropped from 12.8 to 12.4... A good battery holds its charge much longer and steadier. Besides, now that mornings are more frequently under freeze point, starting is a tad bit more laborious. Shame we cannot purchase those P1 Platinum from Sears up here, will probably settle for the Eliminator at CT, usually reliable. At least, that was the case with my previous rides...

In replacing your battery look for CCA over 800, proper battery tray and battery terminal fit, and a sealed maintenance free battery (AGM is good if possible). If crossing the border to a Sears location for the P-1 is not an option then FYI Interstate has a pretty decent battery with an 85 month warranty with 800CCA, if memory serves, that will fit and I note there is a dealer in Ottawa

Uap napa and costco does have really good one to,i would suggest to shop a bit,canadian tire are a bit overpriced for the quality if you ask me,i use to be a mechanic for them,and beleive my experience,they arent that good,i would also suggest to try and get a delco battery,some napa sell them,and even a gm dealer,you just need the right size and at least 800cca,but those are really far ahead of canadian tire ones.But that is just a suggestion buddy. :wink:

Most of the Delco battery can go easily for 7-8 years without problems,the best one i ever saw lasted 11 years,yes here in quebec,with the cold and all,so...And the price is really not that expensive if you compare with others.

The Eliminator's output stands at 880cca, and is AGM. Being sold at Canadian Tire, it also bears a 4-year free replacement plus 10-year limited warranty. These are made by Exide, hopefully a known-to-be-good brand?

Out west Kal Tire is the authorized Die Hard battery dealer. Not sure about out east. I have not checked with them yet as to which Die Hard product lines they carry. You can get Oddessy batteries from dealers in Canada.

I personally dropped in a 750cca delco when my red top died. Starts better then before and has been fine since. only has been a few weeks since i got it.

I just got my new battery at Costco for $80. Group 34 with 795cca. Starts my jeep way better than the original red top ever did.

Yea right! We got a PC-1500 Odessey for $320 CA before taxes from Battery expert and just a 4 years warranty! :dizzy:

I call East Penn Canada tomorrow and check for a Deka AGM, if the price is under $250 with taxes I take one, otherwise I go straight to US border and pick a P1 Die hard. :2cents:

I just order today a Deka AGM "Intimidator" under the name NGT Extreme at Carquest for $208+ taxes. It's about $40 cheaper in the US but spending $70 of diesel for the ride make no sense...

The best AGM deal on the market is and still the Die Hard P1 indeed...

(Deka part number :9A34 .Carquest part number :NG34)

PS: It's out of topic but give some option to my fellow quebecquers living in Jean as.h...Charest cowntry :ROTFL:
