the wife has been mentioning the KJ starting hard lately and such. the battery is still the OEM battery so its at 6+ years old. I have an optima red top sitting here I would like to use. No need for it to go to waste.

thing is though it is a 34 class battery from my XJ. I know the terminals are in the right location as i have had my old XJ battery in the KJ for a month or two. But it didnt fit snug due to the way the KJ OEM 35 class battery is smaller the tray is smaller from factory.

I had wondered if I could buy a universal tray and J hook mount kit and mount my 34 optima in the KJ?

something like this:

with this:

Thoughts?

According to the Optima battery website, both the series 34 and the series 34/78 battery are the same size. Their only difference between the two batteries is that the 34/78 has dual battery terminals. (SAE & GM)
So you should be able to just bolt it into the factory battery tray.

Only '02 KJ's have issues with fitting a group 34/78 battery as the stock battery for a '02 KJ was a group 25 battery, much smaller. Some battery tray trimming and a group 34/78 fits just fine, alot of trimming needed for a Odyessy PC1500/Diehard P1 in a '02.
