Good job! does the pillar's sheet metal flex at all with the weight of the lights on it? Also did you use a rubber insulator between your mount and the truck?

Well.... let me say that I didn't weld it. My company does a lot of work with a machine shop and they did it free of charge for me.

The lights are super light. Maybe a pound each and I only used 1/4 inch bolts so the holes through the jeep are very small, so to answer your question I have not noticed anything...of coarse I just did it this afternoon and the only trip I have made this far was to the store for some celebratory Guinness. I did use some double sided sticky weather stripping around the perimeter of the part that mounts to the A-pillar. I am debating about taping off the perimeter and going back around it with some black silicone just to make sure I don't get any water flow into my mounting holes. I am in Phoenix AZ so I am not too concerned about it, but I am afraid a good car wash soaking may make its way inside the body. No big deal for several years, but I bet rust could form at the bottom, forward corner of the door frame if left unchecked.

Sorry to better answer your question about flex. If you remove the interior cover over the A-pillar the sheet metal that you see is VERY heavy duty steel. I killed a few drill bits trying to get through it! The sheet metal on the outside is very thin, then there is a middle layer of sheet metal that is a little thicker and a little tougher then the heavy duty stuff. I drilled through all three layers for two mounting points, then put a washer and lock nut on the inside followed by the dome nut you see on the outside. So there is absolutely no flex from the exterior sheet metal. I made a big sandwich out of the whole deal.

Did you run the wires through the A-pillar too?

No the wires I ran down the front windshield behind the plastic windshield cover then through the firewall wire bundle. I mounted the switch just in front of the 4x4 selector switch. I can post picks later.

Kudos for being willing to drill into your KK. Looks like a good job.

That is pretty awesome. My Brother just mounted some on his JK and I started thinking about how possible it would be for the KK. Now I know!

Off topic, but Toucan, is that the Cherry red pearl color? That's the color of my truck and I don't have fogs, so now I know what it would look like with blacked lights. I think I wanna invest in lights with fogs before I go painting, Might even try painting the originals to match the body color when I get new lights, just to see what it would look like.

Anyways back on topic, the lights look pretty good. Do they affect visibility in any way? Doesn't look like it really would from the pics, they seem to be mounted back just enough to be hidden.

back off topic... lol

if you are going to buy new headlights with Fogs, and if you want to go Black rather than body color, you might as well buy the ones that come blacked out from MOPAR. No need to risk damaging them in the oven and ripping them apart if you dont need to.

:2cents:

Still off topic. For right now they do not offer the blacked out lights with the fog light kit. In other words you can order the blacked out lights but they will not come with the drivers post to operate them, unlike the kit available in chrome. You could always wire it your self with a button or switch however.

Back on topic: fortunately there are no problems with visibility that I have experienced yet. I tried to mount them as low as possible for that reason.

By the way I think they officially call the color of my Jeep Inferno Red.

I don't think the kit works with 2011s, if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know. I planned on wiring them to a switch though unless the kit does work.

I am sure a machine shop would do it. The guy that I had weld mine told me that I should have just brought it to him in the first place and he would have done the whole thing. Honestly I a pleased how they turned out but I bet someone that worked with metal everyday could do it better. However this whole thing cost me $30.00 and some weekend time, so I'm pretty stoked.

I would love to do some mass fabricating of these brackets, so i could sell them, but the way I made these was so shade-tree mechanic I could not guarantee a quality fit every time.
