From FIA.

What are they gold plated?

Any one know of a better place for the 2006? Amazon is sold out, Cablea's and NAPA don't have them

You really don't need it if everything is working right on your jeep. Just plug it in on the cold nights and it will never miss a beat.
We live in northern MN, the land of cryogenics for the living and the "Princess's" jeep has never not started even after not plugging it in and she's got plenty of heat about two miles down the road.

it's to keep it at optimal operating temp. I plug it in when its below freezing.

With the heat system the crd has (If like I said, everything is working properly) you don't really need it. The Princess's 2005 runs about the same temp winter or summer.

Descending a mountain grade will cause engine temp to drop. Speed increases and rpm's go down. Blocking grill is necessary for me.

Go to local Toy store and buy a plastic 'Crazy Carpet' type sled for around $1.99. Cut to size and slide in behind grill (from bottom) and your done! I have been using this method on my VW TDI's for over 10 years and now use on the CRD. Cheap fix and available in different colors if you so desire.... :P

+1, I've never found heat an issue. Sure, it does rapidly drop a couple of ticks while waiting at a red when ambient is below -20C but restricting airflow isn't going to change how it behaves when stationary. Now, if it was unable to maintain operating temperature while driving than that would be another matter.

Grill cover gives faster warmups, period. With a lagging thermo, we even used it last summer!

I have the inline thermostat and my temperature is rock solid. I would double check your inline thermo install because it should not fluctuate wildly.

What size hole in the t'stat do you have? I have 5/32"

I didn't bother with drilling a hole. Forgot to drill one before I installed. My inline thermostat has been operating very well from day one. The CRD heats up more quickly than with the factory thermostat and it runs at a higher{correct} temperature, and holds the same temperature under all atmospheric temperatures. This is why I would suggest rechecking your install. Maybe there are no issues, but you want to be sure.

Once it gets up to temp, about 20 min highway it's pegged at the center line till I shut it down.

Just ordered the winter/summer front from truktoys no shipping cost ups ground, probably 2 weeks or so.

I am going to pull the tstat housing apart next weekend, see if the stat did seat right with the retainer ring. I also will go with a smaller hole in the tstat.
