How its made: London taxi

Watching how its made where they are making a london taxi......which is interesting to me because it uses the VM 2.5 turbo diesel(like in the 2002-2004 kj).

I'll toss the clip up on youtube(privately), some interesting shots of the engine, though not much.

Well something was off about the mpeg 2 stream file so no video, but I did grab a couple of stills of the engine being installed:

Some things I noticed:

Tensioner is where our fan bracket is, I always thought that the area behind the fan bracket looked prime for a tensioner location, like it was cast to be that way.

No AC or VH.

PS pump where our AC is.

Turbo outlet hose and intake inlet hose are both routed down low to the IC.

Intake elbow is different, connects up to an EGR in about the same place as ours, and it appears to have some sort of vacuum actived FCV on it.

Oil filter location is like on my export engine(2.5).

Has the same hanger bracket in the front.

For some unknown, and apparently unused reason the crank pulley has two sets of serpentine grooves. Either its unused or something else bolts in later.

Interesting, almost looks like an all aluminum intercooler.

Pic 3 is just all black for me.

The motor mounts look the same as ours where your 2.5 was a different style IIRC.

ya pic three is mesed up.

motor mounts are the same style, the drivers side bracket is different(i have one here for a london taxi).

Could you tell what kind of fuel head they used?

Fuel head is the same as KJ, there is no pump in the tank. No air issues either.

Trans is 545rfe (in case not noticed).

Remember that AC is an option: on a car with AC, the compressor is where the PS Pump is in your picture; then, the PS Pump mounts on the right side in front of oil filter and is driven from the second pulley (no tensioner on 2nd belt in that configuration).

I thought the trans looked like a 545rfe, but I've just never seen a 2WD version of it......

Interesting comment on the AC vs PS, that makes quite a bit of sense.
