2" lift kit, new tires... and a problem !

Hi to all of you. First of all, i'm new to this forum, and just started to modify my 2004 Liberty Renegade.

I'm from Quebec, Canada.

So... I got a 2" lift kit installed last week, and today was the time for new tires. So I got 5 BFGoodrich All Terrain.
The size of the new tire is 245/75/16. So about 2" of increase in diameter, 5% larger...
They fit good but the problem is that when I turn the front wheels close to the maximun, the tire that is turned in the inside touches
the back of the plastic of the bumper/fender.

So I was wondering if I was going to have major problems with this.... I guess it's not that bad when the wheels spins forward, but in reverse with
the suspension collapsed??
so I wanted your advice.

if it is the long skinny plastic part that runs under the bumper from side to side, a lot of guys have taken that out
It is there just for looks I guess

No problem at all, it will eventually wear the plastic down, just know when it will hit, it's only when you are turning all the way.

yes it touch a little bit of that "lip", but touches mostly the bottom-rear of the plastic "cover" in the fender, on the back of the bumber.

thats what I was starting to think, that the plastic or the 'corner' of the tire would eventually wear off...

I just dont want to break anything and I guess this forum is THE PLACE to ask, so thanx to you guys.

First off WELCOME

2nd rubbin is a common prob.around here on the back off the wheel well is the pinch weld it sticks out quite abit if you hammer it down/ to the side it should clear up that problem by cutting the plastic around it & then after you hammer it throw some spray on bed liner on it I believe this is what everyone is doing but I may be corrected

For the rubbin' its really the under of the plastic piece, in the back of the the bumper... So I guess I wont have to improvise myself blacksmith

Are you talking about the rectangular piece of plastic, that goes upside down, inside the fender well, on the "door side" of the well? The piece that seems to be empty, where the rubber mud flap are cutted to go around? I was kind of concerned by this piece of plastic, but it doesnt seems to be a problem... for now, I 'll see when the suspension will be fully collapsed, off road...

Look in the "Tires" section and you will find a lot about the rubbing and what you can do to reduce/stop the rubbing. Plenty of info in the General section, KJ 4x4 , FAQs, and Fab sections also on this subject.

You say in the post 245/75/16 but in your sig. its 235/75's whats correct?

I am curious because i will be putting on a 2 inch lift and am curious as to wether 245's will fit with little to no rubbing...

The kit I installed is a Teraflex. It is a dealer installed kit. So wont cause me any problem with the waranty.

Pound that pinch weld down on the back of the wheel well as soon as you can. It will rub when you go Off-Roading!

Im not sure of what I am supposed to pound or hammer. Is that the plastic "rectangle" you are talking about?

is that what I'm supposed to hammer down ?

Cut the plastic then hammer it down.

That be it!
Just take off the tires and cut the plastic around it, then get out your heaviest hammer and pound it inward and flatten it down. I just spray painted mine and cut an old mud flap to cover it, then screwed the flap down with some small self tapping screws.
It's still on after 2 1/2 years of wheeling.

Hey Hey, salut. J'ai acheté et fait installé mon kit chez Jeep Gosselin à St-Nicolas. http://www.grsuspension.com/

Bon, ça m'a couté plus chère que prévus..... 815$ avec les taxes. Il faut faire un enlignement des roues avant après avoir installé le kit. C'est un bon 3 heures au total. Donc je te conseille de l'acheter et p-etre le faire installer dans un garage qui charge moins chere de l'heure qu'un concessionaire... Il se vend pas loin de 350$ sans l'installation

For the ones who dont speak french, I was just explaining where I bought the lift kit in quebec and how much it cost me to get it installed... sorry for the french :wink:

The type of lift you get will depend on what you are doing with your KJ. Being that your avitar is what it is, i would say get a suspension lift. You can probably get Frankenlift shipped up north (www.boulderbars.com) or Rusty's Suspension Lift (www.rustys.com), but stay away from the OTT lift from Rusty's.
