Despite my best efforts to install the tank locking ring by alternating my hits around it with a drift, I could not get the ring rotated past the first notch. :banghead: I even gave up and tried using the old slightly flatter ring to no avail.
So, after spending the afternoon getting nowhere, my evening was used up welding and machining out a tool similar Miller's special wrench.
I will try again this morning after finishing the tool.

I sometimes have luck with similar tight fits with a bit of spray silicone (not WD-40 or spray oil or some such) lube. It seems to make things slick for only a brief time and the residue seems to be absorbed into the fitting with not bad after effect but you do have to work quick.

OK, my spanner tool worked like a charm 8) .
Also this time, I warmed up the rubber O-ring before assembly, in hindsight this would have helped a lot yesterday while trying to use the "gorilla" method.
