Im about ready to do my Amsoil change over. I dont have a manual yet so I figgured I'd just ask what the trans oil capacity is? Also I intend to put in a drain plug. Has anyone put one in? Normaly, the plug would go in the rear bottom corner where there is the most space between the pan and valve body. A hole would be drilled there right from the git go to drain the pan first then open the hole up & fit a bung that has a NPT plug. The Bung gets brazed in place. I'll picture & post this into the tech threads as I get it done. Interestingly, The parts guy at the dealer said check for rust on the pan since they have had to replace them befor for rust through pin holes. Anyone run into that? I have some POR 15 that might find its way onto this pan in any case.

Check out Sams NOOB guide for a link to the Factory Manuals, be sure to get copies of BOTH the 2005 and 06 manuals. The O5 one lacks the diesel cooling text and diagnostic data, published separately in 05, but does have the illustration "keys" the 06 FSM lacks. The 06 FSM has the cooling text and the diagnostic data. If I recall there are also copies of the owners manual linked there too but just in case have you looked at the shelf in the top of the glove box for your owners manual, it's hidden up there and often overlooked.

Be sure to use ATF+4 only, don't know if Amsoil meets that spec.

Capacity per the FSM is 5qts service fill vs. 14qts overhaul fill. Some have reported more for a service fill which may be related to whether or not they have had the tranny fluid drain back problem which would result in more fluid being in the pan, hence drained in a service, than normal.

I'm not handy enough to add my own drain to the factory pan so I just bought one of these:
