I lived in Trinidad for a bit and it was eye opening for me as a Canadian. There the Government permits Oil Co's to drill with the caveat that they must in turn supply their national market at subsidized prices... equated out to 67 cents per US gal. This was back in 2008.

Now back here in Canada, and I notice that we (a net Oil exporting country) are paying up to 20% premium over the US market for our fuel. I paid 1.37 per liter yesterday. it cost $101.25 to fill the libby from empty, and we are not far off par for the dollar exchange. As someone who spent a number of years working in the oilpatch on drill rigs it vex me some that we pay more than Americans do for our own oil, but It vex me more to hear y'all whine louder about your cheaper fuel than us Canadians ever do!!!

AWWWWWW someones butthurt since they can not keep there Jeep running,notice I do not ever complain about my 10mpg's city and have to use premium.I knew what I was getting into and can afford it.

My Jeep is running just fine, but thanks for playing anyway. I'll enjoy my 20mpg city while you attempt to come up with a dig that actually means anything to me. As for your ability to afford premium fuel, it's your own stupidity to run 93 octane in an engine that doesn't require it... But that ability to afford the fuel might change if your corporate masters at FailureProne Tires decide they don't need as many grease monkeys on staff in this economy. They decide that, and anyone could be gone with no notice.

Good luck to you in that regard, millions of people have already gotten that news due to no fault of their own... But I guess you are perfect, indispensable, and immune to that possibility.

10MPG ??? Good lord... my '86 F-350 gets better than that and I only drive it when hauling a big load. I sure hope you live close to work.

and not to mention weighing over 6000lbs,it's like I'm pulling a 2000lbs trailer all the time(hence the need for higher octane gas,stated clearly in the manual).And yes it's my daily driver,even drove it to KY from CO(2700+ miles round trip) in Oct.

If the engine ever goes in that thing, a 4bt would make it all worth while.

I'd have to regear for that and I'm not running a GM trans without OD,and it is illegal here to swap in a diesel into a gas vehicle anyways.Not worth it for a 20mpg's highway when I get 17mpg's highway already.

Anyways I'm a firm believer in cubic inches,and lots of them so it's getting 392cu in's,500hp/500lbs-ft of torque,16 plugs,and all acessories still work(even AC) with a 3/36 full warranty.Easy to find parts for and diagnose with any OBDII scanner.Biggest thing will look 100% factory installed.

Looks cool.

But on this side of the woods, we like to make our vehicles pay for themselves while having fun rolling on simple trails and when it comes to the hard trails, then we get out the TJ's.

It's a happy medium, and to each of us Jeepers his own special Creeper.

While I have never looked into it more than as a fun thought for the dakota a few years ago, I have to shake my head at the hate the governments seem to have on against all things light-duty and diesel.

Don't they realize this is not the early 80's anymore, and we aren't talking about Oldsmobile cutlass cruisers belching and farting noxious obscenities in the supermarket parking lot??

I can not get a smudge to come out of the GDE tuned jeep...

I do get TWICE the range in the city that I get from a similar sized tank of gas in my V8 Dakota, and yet the EPA and various "finger in the pie" governing agencies all scream bloody murder over the evils of diesel .... 20 gal of diesel puts significantly less carbon into the air than 44 gal of gasoline... stoichiometrically at least, as there is just less carbon involved. Is it not a good thing to reduce consumption of fuel and production of greenhouse gasses??

This is about as smart as letting the drug dealers continue reaping the economic profits from the sale and distribution of our as yet un-taxed and regulated BC Bud... but that another discussion for another time and place

The catch is though when most do a swap like that none of the emission stuff get's reused so in fact they become those noxious emitting diesels of the past.Plus nowhere is it legal to swap in any engine that is older then the vehicle it's being put into and the cost of putting in a new diesel with all the electronics is just to expensive for really no gain in the long run.


I do not believe in using "used" parts if at all possible so that would mean and new engine,new trans,and all new wiring which if even can be found would cost for parts alone( no labor) well more then what my future V8 swap would cost complete.Then you gotta think about future part availability and cost.

V8 libby?? I know with boats we can cut em in half and splice in an extra foot or two as required... never thought that would work so good (easy) on a road toy. I know how much room there is along side the I4 CRD.... and I wince at the thoughts of a nice ol' hemi in there... would there be anyplace to run wires???

You shouldnt have to run premium in colorado, mid grade will run just fine-unless you have high compression pistons. Those of us in high elevation states can get away with lower octane fuel.

Been there,tried that and it does not work.

Not just on my KJ either but those who have wheeled with me have found pumping in premium before hitting the trails is a wise choice when reaching 10,000'+.Mine pings using 85 octane badly,under heavy load it pings with 87 octane and I have a very heavy right foot so 91 octane stops all of that.The 1st trail run I did we went over 10,000' and with 87 octane in the tank everytime I let of the gas in 4low the engine would die,no more issues when running 91 octane.

Is it just when your crawling and really lugging the engine or when your out on the roadways too? All the gassers Ive owned got the best mileage running 87-88 octane 91 gave me the same power and mileage. However there was a difference from the 85.

87 octane would give me issues just daily driving it,like I said it would ping under heavy load and I have a heavy right foot.

Have you tried the lower octane since the E-10 became mandatory?

I have a motorcycle that requires 93 octane, but this summer I ran 85 octane with the ethanol and no issues. Most folks don't realize that the ethanol is an octane booster.

Its actually more of a corrosion booster. Make sure you run an ethanol stabilizer all the time in your bike and power equipment gas. sta-bil ethanol treatment or star tron enzyme fuel treatment. Full dose for storage and half dose for every day use. We have seen so many motorcycles and ATVs come in with gummed up fuel systems since they mandated ethanol.

My KJ has always run on ethanol blended gas since Feb 28th '02.
