Ok, so it was time for tire rotation, I figure while I was at it I do my daughter's Exterra also, started working on hers and had to break 3 wheel studs to get the tires off, after a trip to the nissan stealer and some work was done. Now, time to do the CRD, I start on the first tire and three nuts are solid, I mean freaking welded in there, bent the wrench trying to loosen them and they did not budge any, pulled the air compressor, hooked up the impact wrench, NOTHING , how is this possible I realized then that I was not up to it again in the same day and hanged the gloves

WTF is it with this shops over-tightening the s#&t out of these wheel nuts. I know the previous owner of mine took his car to freaking walmart for oil changes and tires, have no idea where my daughters car has been before.

Are this wheel stud hard to change on the CRD???, I will have to go to the stealer and pick up 10 just in case, before I attempt this again.

Well the lawsuits stemming from wheel offs start in the 20million+ range(if someone dies from it) so no one wants that on there head.A few wheel studs/lugnuts is down right cheap compared to a lawsuit.


Oh and if antiseize was used before that could be a major reason for being over torqued as it lubes the threads and when torqued to correct torque setting they will then be way over torqued due to the asntiseize,seen it done hundreds of times.The 100lbs-ft torque spec is for dry threads.

Siardi - sorry about the problem. However, those studs should be a standard size available at any good parts store not just the dealer.

I guess that makes sense for the shop, specially cuz they are not paying for the wheel studs replacements, it's the typical " I don't care" attitude. I believe things can be done right with out having to worry about lawsuits, but it's easier and faster to go all the way instead of taking the time to do it right, that is, cleaning the anti seize and checking the torque specs. I've seen shops do that before, now, you ain't getting that at walmart, that just takes too much time and they "waste" time they can be using to screw some more cars, instead their filosophy is let the customer spend the money to fix what they did wrong. One of the many reasons I rather pay 3 times more but you'll never catch me at walmart.

Just FYI most autoparts stores either do not list front wheel studs for a KJ or have the wrong ones listed.The only place around here I've found to have front wheel studs(and be correct) is Napa.

Napa is my first choice for convenience, they have great guys (at least the one by my house) that know their stuff and I have been going there for years, so they all know me and go out of their way to help me find the correct parts or find solutions to the problem.
