it is my first vehicle and i know its not perfect but i love it, i think part of having a first car is having to work on it and make it your, not just having mommy and daddy buy you a brand new beamer.

Thats the way to be! You will learn a lot by working on it and will enjoy it no matter how frustrating it gets sometimes. I would give you advice but would be restating everything thats already been posted. Have fun with it and enjoy! You only get a first car once.

I know the feeling man. 18 here. Like you im drooling over lifts, bumpers, and lockers but its not happening right now. I was lucky to get my 02 KJ with 46 thousand on the ODO. Its still in very good shape and i plan to keep it like that. I still wheel it though and get it muddy but take the time to do a proper cleaning in, out and under.

When it you get it trustworthy and reliable, find some other Jeepers and take it on some easy trails. Air down a bit and finesse it over obstacles, let the gearing and tires work and use a spotter on tricky sections.
After that you'll realize the true capability of your Jeep, even completely stock. I was certainly impressed the first time taking it out :JEEPIN:
Good luck man :D

Hello,

Not that much older than you and I can relate to not knowing what to do. I started out with a stock Liberty and currently own a "one-of-a-kind" Jeep. This Jeep thing is very addictive. Once you start, you'll never stop. I currently run a Daystar lift on my Liberty and have since September 2010. It does the job and get me over obstacles when off-roading. Started out at four inches (front) and three inches (rear). Now I am currently little over two inches all around. The Daystar lift was installed on OEM suspension parts that had 54,XXX miles at the time of installation. Now I have 76,000 miles on the OEM suspension parts, along with the Daystar lift. Mind you, the Jeep was bought in June 2009 with 32,XXX miles. So yes, I have driven the crap out of it. It's still running and getting me from point A to point B. Regular and preventative maitenance will keep these Jeeps going for a long time.

My Jeep has come a long way. There's nothing I regret doing to my Jeep. I've had a blast driving and wheeling it. My Liberty is my only daily driver and will continue to be for awhile. Everything I know about the Liberty is research, reading, studying and LOST Jeeps. 99% percent of everything I know is from here. It's a great site. So do some studying, reading and researching before you dive head first into this Jeep thing. If you can, go to some local Meet&Greets members host. I drove 7hrs+ to tommudds for a Meet&Greet. Hope everything works out for you. Most important thing is have fun with the Jeep.

Here is my Jeep the day it was bought.

This is currently what it looks like. Nothing fancy on it. Just some good tires.

Well if that's what you want to do, then do it! It's your Jeep, so have fun with it.
I would suggest checking your state laws about having fenders.

I'm the same age as you are (17) and started off the same way, just follow Tom's advice, you'll be alright, 4in of lift is a little bit more complicated but 2.5-3 should do you fine and only set you back around 700-800$ Just make sure to do it right the first time and have fun with your jeep! Oh and the lift isn't too complicated, there's plenty of advice here.

@ Gottorque, Nice renny, it makes me miss mine :JEEPIN:

Thats a heck of a chunk out of that car All3. Makes me appreciate the fact that our KJs are not weight weenies and that pic is a perfect example.

17km. You got any current pics of your jeep.

just use tinypic.com and select the photo to upload, from there copy the code for forums, should be something with there and just paste it here.

so i know tom told me how to get my jeep lifted already.. but i don't think ill have that kind of money anytime soon. and especially since ill be going off to live on my own in a couple months i need to save as much money as possible.

so is a cheaper lift like the rough country 3" really bad? i probably will never off road since I'm moving to florida.

The only problem with that lift is that it's incomplete, it has a spacer lift upfront and close to factory springs, you're front will be lifted with the spacer but will eventually sag back down, you can choose to run it if you want but eventually you're going to need to replace the front shocks/struts and coil springs.

OME 927/948 is a more expensive way to go but worth it in the long run. You'll like the ride quality and the added height. The lift is also well reconized throughout the KJ world and is widely supported. But it's your jeep + money, thats my .02$ haha.

You'll offroad in florida, very sandy, but a lot of fun stuff to do, and a lot of legal places. Hell, you'll offroad anywhere you go :JEEPIN: . go with the OME as soon as you can afford it. the ride quality is worth it alone.

3/8 clevis lift and a top isolator and you can bring that up a lot. search around the forums a bit, the OME is the most common and it brings most up about 2.5"
