My door check looks something like this:



My wife broke it yesterday. I have read that these are fairly sturdy but she says that she didn't force the door too far. I certainly can see how the plastic arm could break around the pin (right where it did break).

Has anyone tried replacing their door check with a metal one like those in the early XJ's?



I don't want to waste my time if this has been tried before and found not to work.

Mine broke where the pin goes though the O (far left in the pic above). Don't know how it happened but there is a loud snap every time I open/shut the door. I woud be intersted in this post as well.
