How can you tell if the odometer has been altered by the previous owner when you buy a used KJ? Is it possible to really find out if they messed up with the milage?

Did you run the VIN# to see if the mileage is off between registrations and whatnot?

only way to mess with it is to replace it with a different unit with different mileage, or reprogram it with the $5000 DRBIII.

You can't even reprogram it with the OEM scan tool.

And yes if they replaced the IC with another is the only way.

If the ODO reads 50K miles and the Jiffylube sticker has 83K miles in the schedule box, it's been altered.
