After the oil change this past summer i've noticed some spots on the driveway. Further inspetion revealed oil running down the filter from the top, I was able to tighten the filter slightly but it still leaked. Tried changing the filter this past weekend and it persists. Without tearing into it I am going to assume it is leaking from the adapter that bolts to the block. The question I have is whether or not this is a common spot for a leak to occur. Anyone else having this issue?

Replace the oil pressure sending unit located right above the oil filter, that's a common leak point on any Chrysler.Make sure you get a OEM sensor as aftermarket ones are well known to cause issues with the oil light.

Make sure you have only one gasket on it. The other one may stay on and having two on will cause issuses.

Was going to point this out as well. Every time you change the oil, double check that the old rubber gasket came off with the old filter. If it's stuck to the block the new filter will leak because it won't have a good seal.

Oil pressure sensor as pointed out as well.

Grnd98,
I am having same exact issue with my 02. It drips right into the little plastic trough.
HAve you tried the sensor yet as tjkj pointed out?

It's a pain to get to but like TJKJ2002 said get the one from the dealer (extra 10-15 bucks) or you'll have to do it twice like I did. :furious:

If you remove the filter its doable. I've had luck pulling the shroud and getting it from the front too.

Good luck

Definitely a dealership item. I found out the hard way. The dealer version worked fine. The aftermarket said direct fit but was designed for a gauge and kept tripping above about 2k rpms.

If you aren't changing the oil and filter, pull the fan shroud and the serp belt and you should be able to get to it. If its still too tight remove the PS pump bolts and just move it out of the way.

60$ for me. Paid 50 at Rockauto for the one that didn't work. So 110 total.

Paid $60.00 at the dealer today. The parts guy said theirs wasn't anything special. Does have a 1 year warranty though.

It'll be worth the 60 bucks. The aftermarket one I had started alarming above 2000rpms almost every time I stepped on the gas. Replaced it after a couple weeks of being annoyed and haven't had an alarm or drip since. It doesn't look any different from the other one but more importantly it work.

a sending unit, "direct fit" or not, if designed for a gauge will trip the light, as RPM's vary since the OSU's for gauges and lights result in different signals which is probably why your OSU is flickering the light since you said it's for a gauge

the only OSU's I've ever bothered with using other than from the stealership have been Standard Motor Products osu's

Wells makes crap OSUs and Omix's are hit or miss
