I favor removing assembly from the firewall to change the filter, less mess. If you do be sure the push the fuel hoses off the fittings, don't try to pull them as they just grab tighter. See fuel head bleeding video on Sam's NOOB guide for the difference between the 1st and 2n gen fuel filter heads
