Has anyone been annoyed by the number of nonsense posts made by bots in the last week or so? Is there any way we can bot-proof the site? I'm guessing this is a question for the moderators (who do an excellent job administering the site, by the way-- Thank you.). It would suck to have to find and delete all the annoying bot posts individually.

I've been able to keep these bots from registering in a few forums I setup for various sites, by adding a "challenge" question; when registering.

Few examples I've used:

5+4-9=?
What is the 3rd letter of the word CHICAGO
Spell Soup
What is the name of this forum?
What is the address of this forum? (excluding www.)

Since doing this, I haven't seen a single bot register. Captcha and the other one (can't remember name), seem to be useless nowadays, as it never seems to work. At least for me..

I remember setting up my buddy with a forum, first week we were amazed by the number of people registering. Until I asked him if they're posting and whatnot. He would average 15-20 members A DAY, without much advertising. After looking at the IPs and registration info, all were bots I can still see the bots trying to register/view threads, only they can't do anything. Blocking IPs is a never ending game and they takeup server resources that could be useful for people actually browsing the forum.

They're like roaches.
