I read somewhere that you have to have a winch rated at twice the weight of your vehicle. Would a 9000 lb winch have enough guts to pull a liberty out? Will I have to run dual batteries If I buy a 9000lb winch, I allready have the optima redtop.
not twice only 1.5 times gross vehical (jeep + stuff probably less than 5200#)
so an 8000# winch would be fine
as far as dual batts go that depends on a few things how much will you use it? how far will you be pulling?
and also even dual batteries wont help much if the engine diesand you make a long pull
a good mesure i use for a winch is that i have seen a 9000# warn ,on a single line pull, pull a F150 up to the frame in mud so thick that a 175# man could walk on it and not sink and he made the pull on a stock ford batt. with the engine running
with all that said a good 8000# winch would be more than enough to pull a liberty in any situation
just my .02
