 Post subject: Rear axle seal

Anyone had to replace the left rear axle seal and bearing yet? Mine started leaking this week after changing diff. fluid a few weeks ago... :?

Huh, I'd nearly forgotten that I had one replaced by the dealer at about 5K miles.

While off road i somehow managed to damage the backing plate for the rear right wheel end.

In order to replace the backing plate one must remove the axle shaft.
I had ordered the incorrect seal and completed the job without replacing said seal.

I found myself replacing the seal 2 years later. It was leaking slightly.
