I disagree. Look at the list of things in the tow package that I posted above. You're still missing the last three, and they're arguably the most important for the tow rating.

Obviously you can do what you like, but I wouldn't tow much over 2000 lbs with that configuration.

Engine and drive train are factors in how much weight a vehicle can tow. Brakes are a factor in how much it can stop. Trans cooler ect keep temp in safe temp range.But with out a gauge you can still over heat Trans, and engine. Electronic sway control is new (mumbo jumbo),not all vehicles that tow have this. The trailer hitch that has load bars is the difference, not the Liberty hitch. Sway control safety feature, Likley because of the short wheel base of the liberty.
Some people tow loads with a half ton pick-up that require a Three quarter ton. Like my 80 year old neighbor. He has a 5th wheel, been towing it for 17 years, even to Alaska. He drives 55 and turtle starts. It works for him, but I wouldn't do it nor do I want to be in front of him when his brakes heat up.

So can it tow and stop 5000 yep, should you???

I tow our scout trailer with my stock KK. When I was doing some looking under the hood, can't see much difference between one with a tow package vs one without other then this little extra cooler (about 5x7) that looked like it was going to the powerstearing. Having a trans cooler standard is all i figured I needed. Our trailer tips the scale at 3400 and some change. I tow it inthe tow/haul mode and don't drive over 60. I've towed it about 5 times inthe past 2 years and each time from 20 to 150 miles. I just got my 60k service done and was told my fluid was like new and I still have 60% of my brakes left. Either I got one built on a tuesday or just lucky. I did pull a 6x12 cargo trailer (Uhaul) around for a few days with no issues. I have a classIII hitch (hidden hitch). Only thing I noticed was I wasn't getting great gas mileage . Like I didn't see that coming. I think 3000 is the sweet spot for these rigs. 5000 is pushing it IMO.

Speaking of which, I did notice my tow/haul butten is depressed below where it normally goes and won't pop back up. It's not in tow/haul mode (according to the light or the way it shifts) but i just noticed it a couple days ago. Waiting for the weekend to pop off the cover and see what's up. Anyone have this issue before? Think the stealership did it when they installed my heated seats. Want to be sure before I go back guns ablazing.

Agreed. My trailer weighs about what yours does and I wouldn't want it to be much heavier. It already drops into first gear more often than I'd like going up hills.

Also, I should point out that the 5000 lb rating is only when the Jeep is empty except for a full tank of gas and 150 lbs of driver. Anything you add beyond that (including the hitch - mine is about 75 lbs by itself) is subtracted from the 5000 lbs.
