What scan tool can read the TCM on our CRD's other than the StarScan that the dealer uses?

I need to read the version that my TCM is flashed to as I bought a used TCM from a Salvage yard that was supposed to be an unmolested non-F37 unit p/n 56044737af but it shifts as though it has been reflashed. I may need this detail to prove my point that they did not send me what I indicated that I wanted to purchase.

I noticed 40 view and no posts... you may have to run past a dealer to get it 'read', or at least a shop that does enough Dodge work to have a DRBIII..

Don't waste your time or money hunting a tool for this purpose as it's not needed to prove your point. In addition to the ca. 62mph final shift point on a post F-37 TCM being a dead bang no brainer clue; the "af" suffix is for a 2006 TCM which by definition came from the factory with the F-37 detune (aka 2006 stock TCM tune). The 2005 TCM suffix is "ab" and that's the one that was flashed post production to the F-37 detune or maybe not if the CRD owner found a cooperative mechanic who would do the torque convertor check/replacement and overlook flashing the TCM.

papadingo - Thanks for the info. I guess the old saying "be careful of what you read on the internet as there is a lot of misinformation" holds true here as I have read in several places that the the "af" suffix was from the 2005's and the pre F-37 TCM. So if I want to find one that does not have the detune I would need to find an "ab" suffix that has not been molested.

Good luck on that hunt. As to the suffix info I'd suggest you read thru Sir Sam's NOOB guide and download the parts manuals from the links provided. I got the info from those manuals. If you download FSMs get both 05 and 06 as 05 lacks diesel cooling system data and general diagnostics but has illustrations keys while 06 is the reverse.

An alternative to the hunt is to purchase the GDE TCM tune ($300) which isn't exactly a roll back of the F-37 altough it does restore similar shift points.

I've had all the GDE tunes from prototype on. To add to what Pap said, The GDE TCM tunes keep the TC locked to 3/4 throttle over 35 MPH, improving mileage. I have the "tow tune" which holds shifting to 5th to 70 MPH, giving real usability to 4rth gear.
