Now to your question. The short answer is "Yes". However, the route that you take is up to you. You can either 1) disconnect the MAF sensor as the Noob Guide suggests. This will cause the Check Engine Light to appear and it will not go away. Or, #2) spring for a Green Diesel Engineering Full Torque Eco-Tune computer reflash. This will turn off the EGR electronically and everything is left intact AND you will not have any dash lights to bug the ever livin' p*ss out of you.

Either way, fuel mileage can improve, the hard and fast number is tough to pinpoint. Hope this helps.
