Man, just give me an updated Cherokee!

How sweet would a no frills diesel powered truck be!

Ditto on the comments above. The Wrangler will be the only true off road offering they have and no one will be able to afford them. The Black ops one at the dealership where I bought my used 2010 Liberty was like $42,000!!!!!

I only buy cars I can buy....with cash and $42,000 is not a cash purchase!

I agree. They need a true off road capable vehicle that's cheaper than the Wranglers. The 2 doors aren't that bad I guess, but the 4 doors are pretty pricy. Maybe they'll bring the price down a little....I can dream right?

I'll be dreaming with you lol. And that's not bad. I think the Rubicons go for about that much by me. Cod Wranglers are probably a bit more because it's "Call of Duty" lol. The dealer where I got my KK was selling a 4 door AEV JK for 54k. This still had the 3.8 too. Literally all that was done was the lift, wheels and bumpers.

Thing is, we are in the minority.

Personally I wouldn't even want a no-frills trucklet.

I like my air conditioning. I like quiet.

It wouldn't sell.

Most buyers like their comfort and gadgets these days.

After reading the above article, here's a news flash for Chrysler (Jeep). Though they want to make it front wheel drive, don't price it at the price point of your current 4x4 KK. I'm NOT (and doubt others will), going to drop 25-28k on a FWD "can't beat'em, join'em", hatchback just because it's says "JEEP" on the front and rear. I currently have a 02 Limited and 09 Sport. Im loyal to what the Jeep BRAND stands for and not to some design that was cooked up by a couple of underpaid interns who replaced someone who might have been let go because they made too much money  You currently have a 2wd version of the KJ which is all but useless except in dry flat conditions (no disrepect 2wd owners). If the price point of a 2014 4X4 is close to (or even less) then your current 4x4 KJ sport, then you might get me into the showroom to "look" at one. Otherwise, I'm sure darn happy to have gotten my 09 with a lifetime warranty on it's engine/drivetrain because that's about how long I'm gonna keep it. :JEEPIN: I'm getting too old 8) for a Wrangler so thats off the scope. If I wanted a car, there are WAY BETTER choices out there then something that showed up to the party 6 years too late. :grim:

So, is the below the "competition"?

IIRC, they stated their competitors as the Ford Escape, the Toyota RAV4.

Personally, I'd rather see a soccer-mom Jeep than have Chrysler go Chapter 7. They have to make what people want.

Having said that, I'd never buy one. In 10 years when I'm about ready to replace the KK, maybe it'll be a wrangler, maybe Jeep will have something new by then.

Seen one in the wild. Guy passed me like the rear protective "hide me" cover was on fire. I tried to catch up but I was doing 85 and he was pulling away and traffic was too heavy to go faster. Besides, one idiot on the road was enough so I gave up. Don't care if it has the Jeep name on it or not. Not a style that appeals to me and I'm not in the market for a Wrangler, nor never will be. But it looked just like the picture, small, rounded and un-jeep. Too bad. :?

Here's what I think:

The Cherokee was half a ton lighter than the liberty and quite a bit smaller. Jeep wants to kill the patriot and compass and replace with one vehicle, so . . . .

Release a 2014 Liberty AND a 2014 Cherokee.

The Cherokee would be ~3,000 lbs and have a choice of 2 different tiger shark 4 cylinder units or a pentastar 3.6 V6. Same box-on-wheels look as the old model, with a refreshed modern twist.

The liberty could fill some other hole in the market.

Now THAT'S a good idea. But why stop there. How bout a V-8 and a frame. No electronic anything but ignition and fuel injection.

Everything you guys *want* is impossible (well currently) due to FMVSS.

And again, the spy shots you guys see will in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM resemble the 2014 KL Liberty.

It's just a mule.

Nothing but a mule.

Did I mention that it is just a mule?

6 or so months from now we MIGHT see what the Liberkee (name undecided) will look like. THOSE will be the spy shots worth paying attention to.

Just to let you guys know, automakers can use ANYTHING for a mule. Anyone who lives in this general area can see various mules and not notice any differences between the mule and a regular every day car. Or they can look like this!

Anyone remember the Plymouth Prowler?

Image

Is that a Wrangler? Yup, it is! Did the Prowler come out looking like that? No.

General Motors used old Malibus for Chevrolet Volt mules.

I'm happy enough just to see some nice tires and some very nice ground clearance.

They say the 2014 will be a FWD based system, activating AWD when required. That system has been total crap in any vehicle it's been in. Watch and learn:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nd4t6PduOs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

The 2014 better come standard with a winch.

Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, we're all wrong and those spy shots are the compass/patriot replacement.

Wonder if the parking brake trick would have helped any of the other vehicles.

I see some frustration out there lol. Knowing this is a just a mule, I am not that excited about the power train either. I realize the new 3.6 is getting a lot of hype. I think it still needs to be proven. To me the horsepower and torque figures would be better if it was reversed 260 hp and 290 ft lbs of torque. Moreover, I beleive the block and heads are all aluminum with cast iron sleeves. The plus is that aluminum is much lighter then steel and iron, the problem though is if the motor should overheat aluminum likes to warp bad verses a cast iron block, therefore if that happens to you are s.o.l. Furthermore, the same goes for this new 8 spd trans, it seems when Chrysler comes out with new best thing since slice bread it takes about 8 more years to fix lol.

I hope they do create and/or outsource some turbo diesels, I would love to have the Mercedes 3.5 in my Lib right now.

It isn't. Look closely at the photos.

Not too hard to see the code "KL".... which we have known for YEARS would be the next Liberty.

KJ>KK>KL

Doesn't take a rocket scientist...
