B100 won't harm anything either, the manufacturers just didn't want to accept any responsibility for fuel-related POTENTIAL issues b/c at the time, not every retailer was supplying ASTM-rated bio.
This was stupid anyway, b/c it is the responsibility of the fuel retailer to maintain quality of their product. I don't know of any car maker that would accept warranty claims for either misfueling (putting diesel in a gas or vice versa) or for bad fuel (water contamination, crap in it) screwing up an engine. That is all on the retailer and what is put into or delivered from their tanks.
The problem with biodiesel is that it is an EXCELLENT solvent. Like a liquid brillo pad for your fuel system. On any diesel that has more than a few thousand miles on it, a tank of high-percentage biodiesel WILL PLUG THE FILTER without fail. Why? B/c all the sludge in your tank will be scoured out, and run right into the filter. This is normal, and exactly why big fleets were massively complaining of "problems switching to biodiesel" b/c they weren't understanding that they would need to be buying filters by the case for a short time. It isn't a badness in the fuel, it is badness in your TANK that is getting purged. Once you hit it 2 or 3 times with bio, the sludge is cleaned out. Doing it with low-percentage bio doesn't scour your fuel system anywhere near as badly.
I have over 10,000 hours on my big generator (diesel) and 125k on my Jeep... I know for FACT that should I put B100 into either one of those... I will be purging the tanks into the filter and need new filters SOON after doing it. No big deal, but I can't do it anyway b/c there isn't any bio around here in Savannah.

My engines on my CRD and my old TDI LOVED biodiesel when they did get it.
