I would like to know ( for sure ) instead of presuming I'm right based on old school mechanics, but where is the #1, #2, etc., etc., cylinders on the 2005 2.8 CRD? I'm sure the front is #1, #2, #3, #4 ( at the back ) but this is an Italian engine so??? :pepper:

FSM doesn't say and I don't know and won't guess. You might PM/email GDE or Sir Sam.

Cylinders are numbered 1-2-3-4 starting from the front of the engine and moving towards the bell-housing.

Firing order is 1-3-4-2.
Even still the same today with the new 4-cyl engines. :)

Thanks, well #1 & #3 injectors are not operating at 100%, there is some fuel going in, but fault codes 261 & 267 ( low side fault to ground ) so either the little solenoid in the head of the injector is weakened over time or something is open or bad ground back to the ECM somewhere, I'm just guessing on these points, any info will be greatly appreciated. I have black smoke and a clear miss going on, with a little rattle in it when you hit the throttle. :pepper:

As a diagnostic, have you tried swapping injectors between #1 and #2 to see if the code moves with the injector?

The goal is to narrow the choices between:

a) electrical feed TO the injector (e.g. wiring, ECU, etc)
b) the injector ITSELF.

Since the injectors are calibrated and coded, you can't leave it this way but for a quick diagnostic it may avoid your having to pay for an injector only to find that a mouse had chewed through the wiring near the back of the engine... BTW: When removing my injectors I used a yellow paint pen (auto parts store w/roller ball) to mark the injectors to avoid installing them into the wrong cylinders during reassembly.

I'll give it a try mark, as soon as the rain & snow stops ( in a few days ). I've looked over the wiring harness and I cannot see any damage from chewing rats/mice, it looks to be in good working order. I've been around diesels all my life, I know the basics and now I'm learning a lot more about how these new machines operate, etc., it's become more complex than it need be for sure adding additional cost to repair beyond being reasonable in my opinion. For what it would cost to put a full set of injectors in this thing ( 4 ), I could go buy a good used vehicle to get by with until I could fix this thing the right way. I think Bosh could use some competition in the injector rebuild business, the cost for one rebuilt injector is almost what I think a full set of rebuilt injectors should cost a guy. :pepper:
