Hello,

Could any of the following cause the starter to screech every fifth or sixth start. It screeches but does still turn the CRD enough to start it but sometimes I need to crank it a bit before it does. I am suspect of it being the starter itself as it doesn't do it all the time and started quite suddenly.

1. Sticky transmission
2. Worn engine mount

Is there anything else that can cause this or do I need a new starter?

There have been a few who've had bolts come loose that hold the flexplate - as vibration may be the cause. If one or more are loosened and the plate is no longer solidly mounted, or perhaps it's wobbling, it could cause issues.

Doesn't sound like something you'd let go for long - at least pull the starter and have a shop inspect? Give you a chance to reach through and check out the flexplate to see if there's any damage on the teeth or any movement/play.

It could just be the bendix spring assy in the starter..

Mark
