L27 recall

Well it's my lucky day. I just got the recall notice for the lower control arms. Dealer is replacing them free of charge. It's awesome cuz my crd came from Michigan and they looked rusty and I was just putting it off

Is this a new recall? Haven't received a notice but have moved a couple times since I bought my Jeep.

I believe the recall is due to the rear lower control arm rusting in states that use corrosive anti-icing agents in the winter.

I had to replace my LCAs when the rubber got beat up by hard shifts (since fixed), and they get pretty squirrel'y with torque steer when those things are just loose. I can imagine one letting go on the freeway!

It's NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V085000 and applies to 04-05 KJs originally sold in or currently registered in listed states. I suspect you might have to lean on corporate a bit if you have a KJ that spent considerable time in those states but was not sold there and is no longer or was never registered in those states. For example if it was sold in FL but registered in one of the listed states from say Dec. 05-Dec 11 they would have a hard time wiggling out of a recall repair even if the vehicle technically doesn't meet either criteria.

The paper I got also said if I already done this on my own I can show receipts and get full reimbursement. So if anyone has done it, it's worth a shot to get a little monies back from Chrysler.

Not sure if its state specific or not. My libby has been registered in Texas, Hawaii and is now in sunny Southern Ca. I got the notice and the part is on back order... Ohh well I just hope they don't F 37 it.

Can non-Chrysler dealers perform the replacement, free of charge?

For example, would a VW dealer do this recall?

I dread going to the Jeep dealer, as they always seem to mess something up.

I think this is one even a dealer can do correctly most of the time... nothing peculiar to the diesel, and similar to so many other higher production quantity models that their odds of completing the task are considerably improved over, say, a timing belt change... :ROTFL:

No,only a Chrysler,Dodge,or Jeep dealership can do the recall.

Tree Catcher - if you take it in to a Dealer they will likely check your VIN for outstanding recalls. If the F-37 has not been done on yours (keep in mind many/most 2006's had it done at the factory) they will do it. However, you can specifically instruct them not to do so in writing on the ticket.

As to who can do it, I'd agree once the recall is issued generally only a dealer and this is a relatively simple KJ thing not a KJ CRD thing. That said IIRC for those who get the notice and have already had the work done those folks can get reimbursed if they have receipts regardless of where the work was done but I don't know the procedure for getting reimbursed.

I am taping over my port with a few passes of duct tape, writing do not remove on it, and writing many notes to leave stuck to the drivers door, and steering wheel. I think it was dieselenthusiate that asked if anyone has yet designed a chastity belt for their port and I wish there was one. I do not have the f37....Hopefully it stays that way...

When I checked into the dealer about the f37, it had already been performed. However I still have a shift into top gear at 57 or 58 MPH. They may have changed the torque converter but forgot to reprogram the ECM. I don't want them to mess with that

Tree Catcher - it's uncommon but not unheard of (I know as I have one or did until I got the GDE TCM tune) for a CRD to show the F-37 was done but for that vehicle to still have the pre-F-37 shift points. Usually that means the dealer at least checked for torque convertor problems and the owner instructed the dealer not to do the detune TCM flash although I suppose it's possible the dealer forgot. If you take it in for this recall the dealer is still likely to check for an outstanding F-37 since that was a recall (e.g. required) and not a TSB (e.g. optional or at least no automatically required to be done). In your case they will "see" that it's been done and should go no further. But call me paranoid I'd still write on the work ticket that they are prohibited from hooking the vehicle up to a computer for any reason without your written permission.

littlebiggin - go to https://owners.jeep.com/sub/Pages/Owner ... Source=%2F scroll down to "Recall Search" on the lower left. Alternatively go to any Jeep dealer and they can pull a vehicle history, should be no charge, which will show all work done on the vehicle by any DC dealer including recalls/TSBs. How uptodate either source is relative to this specific recall I don't know.

I just called the nearest Jeep dealer and had them check my VIN# and apparently my CRD is included in the L27 recall as well. The F37 has already been done and I don't have an aftermarket tune yet. There's not a whole lot that the dealership can screw up is there?
