Sir Sam,
When you did UFO's , did you leave the old water pump housing and just replaced the cartridge? Just wondering. I will be doing the t/b waterpump replace soon. And was thinking of using the old water pump housing.

If you look at my writeup you will see that I used an OEM pump, and replaced only the front half, leaving the back half with all its PITA bolts in place. I had to remove both cam gears to remove the front cover to do this, but its a much easier method IMO than trying to get at all the other bolts from the rear.

Thanks, Yea it would make the job alot easier. As for parts the thought never crossed my mind of using non oem parts.

I finally got the intake pulled off. What a P.I.T.A. getting everything out of the way. Anyways, results of a water pump failure -

It is a little hard to see from the photo. Exhaust side on left, intake side on right. 6 of the 8 exhaust rockers are cracked/split bad, one completely split apart, the other 2 have significant play in the rocker. 3 of the exhaust lifters fell apart when taking them out, 2 of which had a chunk missing.... and one was stuck against the head, needed vise-grips to pull it out. No damage to the head though.

And of course, video of the water pump. Disassembled it, was expecting it to fall apart. Something inside gave out, bearing maybe?

I'll be replacing all 16 rockers/lifters as I'm not going to risk trying to save a few dollars again.

Save those good rockers though........might be useful to someone in the future.

And like I said you can get that set of 16 rockers from europe pretty cheap....then reuse your good lifters and pickup a few used lifters from people like myself.

When I was looking for a water pump for mine, I came across the one from Crown. I am now so glad that every source that I found were out of stock at the time and I went with the mopar one.

Thank you for reporting on this. I was under the impression so far that the on failure reported some time ago was an isolated incident.

The Crown pumps are made in Europe, but thats all we know.

I have been watching the pump in my truck and the test truck I first installed it in and everything has been working well so far, but I'm going to have ID stop selling them until we can get more data.

Got the Jeep put back together thanks to Wobbly. The eBay purchase still hasn't come yet, filed a claim through eBay for refund which should be done soon. I'm definitely an expert on a timing belt and rockers now. I initially got it back together and it wouldn't start, so I pulled EVERYTHING back down to the rockers again to find that all the rockers were fine and still on the springs :banghead: . It was likely a fuel line that was loose on the injector leaking onto the intake manifold (make sure to get those tight!) so I put it all back together AGAIN and double checked everything along the way. I can now tear down a CRD to the head in 2 1/2 hours. It took about 20 seconds cranking for it to start up once assembled - got misfire on cylinder 1 and fuel leak codes - all due to air in the fuel lines, had me worried for a while though. After running on 3 cylinders for a minute it cleared up and runs great. I can't thank Wobbly enough for getting those rockers/lifters to me. Hopefully GDE doesn't have too long of a waiting list for these tools now. Off to the post office they go!
