I got the dreaded #3 glow plug code #1265 tonight. Along with it was P1427. I can't find it on the list in Tech Section. Anybody know that one?

Google says:

Thanks! I did not think to Google it. If it is a short circuit as opposed to failure, I assume it is a bad sensor or a wire rubbed bare somewhere. I'll Mess with it tonight when the wife gets home with it. Ordered the metal tipped glow plugs last night.

You can buy special Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner at an autoparts store. Might want to try cleaning it and see if it solves the problem.

Thanks, I'll stop and get some. I did not have time to spend on it last night except I plugged in the code reader and neither codes came up. I ordered the Glow plugs and gasket yesterday. I will try cleaning the MAF tonight.

It is not your MAF sensor, this will not set a CEL with a GDE tune. P1427 is not even on my list of fault codes for the KJ CRD.

That was why I was on this topic. It was not on the list in the CRD Tech section. It had a little 2 after it and the 1265 had a little 3 after it. I assumed that ment that the code was sent 2 and 3 time respectively. Betty called and said the light is back on tonight so I will verify the code numbers. I can take a picture of it if that helps and I am not saying that I wrote it down correctly either but I made sure to put the Miller Lite down before I wrote them down.

I only had the 1265 code last night. Looks like glow plug #3 is toast. I will have the stuff to change them all in a couple weeks. Libby will be humming along again soon.

On a second note; what happens when the fan clutch fails? Does it stick so that it is engaged all the time? Does this cause a drop in fuel mileage? I have never heard or seen my electric fan run either. I have no problems with over heating.

A failed mechanical fan clutch defaults to "open" (e.g. the clutch won't engage hence the fan won't run off the engine). The FSM has a test method.

The electric fan just behind the grill is keyed to run by the AC IIRC and runs most all the time when the AC is on and vehicle speed is low. I've seen/heard it sometimes at idle in a parking lot.
