Looking back though, I think jerking on those things may not be a good idea, pull only. :2cents:

yea it tore the metal on my frame APART! So Mark makes a Winch backbone mount? like to put a winch on? because if so, I'm not sure because that would possibly cut into the bumper? and that means i gotta buy another winch. I already have one on my Rubicon. and Im only going to be wheeling my Rubicon from now on bc its more set to wheel than my liberty is. can you post a pic of the plate? and its location on the Jeep please? thank you.

and btw i got THE worst feeling in the pit of my stomach from that break/tear of my frame. i looked and flipped a shi*t! My friends dumb idea was to jerk, i told him not to! but of course no one listens to me..... lol :furious:

def had a few drinks later :5SHOTS: :)

If you pm your email I'll send some pics. It's not installed yet but I have some good shots of it before and after paint. There is some cutting involved to fit it on there. Detours could probably make something for you that doesn't have a winch plate. Mark has a lot of talent and thinks outside of the box very well.

I posted earlier that I was planning to do a how to on a KK backbone install but I found one in the tech section that someone already did so I won't be making one. In fact, I'll be using his lol.

If you don't go with the back bone, the front cross member is like a hundred bucks but it;s the labor that kills you. Your looking at 2 to 3 hours to R&I that part itself.

humm, after watching the video I see why it ripped off....its not that he jerked it too hard.....IMO its because the hook is not bolted directly to the frame...the wimpy M bolt and the other useless clip thing are way too weak....the hook should be bolted directly onto the frame....Chrysler saved .02 by not having the nuts "in" the frame

I don't think that'll do the job completely, mine tore through the frame, it just isn't thick enough. A 1/4" plate the width of the frame channel and about 6" long would probably be the way to go.

Yea Ted is right. the frame just wasnt thick or let alone strong enough to withstand a beating that a tow hook takes during recovery. It a stupid design, i want a winch!! :juggle: :goink:

They are supposed to both be used to distribute the force! Spinning the tires only digs you in deeper!

Have joined the KJ hooks on a KK club :)
Bought these from Chrysler Winona Parts 4 weeks ago but the weather has been so lousy here in Adelaide I haven't had a chance to do anything to the car.
Anyway, was a pretty straight forward job to install them, and happy with the results.

Me too! I like the look of having two, rather than the single one that the KK is supposed to get.

I highly advise spraying all the bare bolts with Rustoleum hammered black paint rather than leave them totally exposed to the elements. Actually this is addicting to me...every few months I roll underneath the truck and spray anything I see rusty with this stuff.....(even the exhaust/muffler with high temp)

Sorry for bringing this up from the past, i'm new to the Jeep world

I just purchased a 2008 KK, and i want to install two tow hooks
Do the KJ hooks really fit a KK without any mod?

For example can i order this set and install them with no problems?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-2007-Jeep- ... 4af84cdf2d

Thanks for the help guys

Yes you can but I advise you to fasten them differently. The m bolt has a tendency to pull through uniframe. There is a plate with threaded holes that slips through the uniframe but the bumper has to come off to install it.

So if i want something more simple i should just get the single KK hook?

That's not what I'm saying. I'm looking for a post I made with the part number and pics for what you need. Everything you have pictured is OK except for the m bolt, that gets replaced by a stud plate. That's how they come if they were installed at the factory.

This is the hardware you'll want for the tow hooks.
