Help! My 2005 Liberty has always had a front end vibration that comes and goes. It mainly happens at speeds in excess of 60 MPH on the highway. The steering wheel start to will vibrate and then it gets worse. If you lightly tough the brake pedal it gets really bad as if the rotors were warped (but they are not). I'm on my second set of tires and it still does it. I had an alignment done (no help), had dealers look at it under warranty and they can't get it to re-produce. The dealer said the ball joint modification was done. I'm at a loss.

Mine did this constantly at speeds above 80mph with vibration and noise being extremely bad at 85 and above. I remedied the problem by replacing the passenger side drive axle which had been making clunking noises when I made sharp left hand turns.

I'd look at the axles and prop shaft. If my vibration hadn't gone away this afternoon, I would have replaced prop shaft next. I've got 111k miles on my beast and don't mind replacing parts that normally wear out with usage.

It is more than likely the intermediate axle. I put a new one in mine along with all new CV's. Here's what sucks. The front diff turns constantly since there is no lockout hubs, shouldn't be a big deal. The bean counters at Chrysler put a bushing on the outer end of the intermediate shaft instead of a bearing assembly. A bushing may be fine if it had some type of lockout but with the diff constantly spinning it will wear out. Replacing everything helped on mine but there is a ton of slop still in that bushing. I need to pull my front diff and have the bushing replaced.

This might explain the noises that I've been having for a long time... Can you replace that bushing without pulling the diff? I'm not sure I want to tackle a job that large, but I might be able to replace the front driveshaft without too much trouble.

I'm reasonably certain that the noises are coming from one of those three pipes connected to the pumpkin - It does seem like the noise has been getting louder lately, but I don't have any direct vibrations... What I did have was BAD tire cupping... Which suddenly went away and hasn't returned yet.

If the steering wheel actually jerks back and forth in your hands when lightly braking at high speeds, you may have a problem with pad "imprinting". This results in the thickness of the rotor varying. It require mikeing the rotor every inch all the way around to find it.

I had a similar problem when my front brake caliper was binding. Was intermittent then one day binded real bad and pulled hard when I braked. Heated up so bad that it burnt the ABS wire. Check your calipers.

Dang, I have tire cupping on my front drivers side. The noise is getting louder too, gets louder at 60 MPH then quieter above that.

For people that replaced axles and what not, was there a way to tell if they were bad?
