Making my own skids

Transmission skid done.

My first plan was to drill through the rearward crossmember and run a bolt all the way through it, but i'm having second thoughts about drilling into the crossmember. One it looks like a total pain, second i don't want it to rust where i made the new hole.
I measured the hex shaped hole where the nutserts are suppose to go and it is 1/2". I found these which have a 1/2" hex on them, will they work?

The half inch ones might work. I know some of the nutzerks are M10's and M12's

I decided to reinforce my transmission skid after doing some research here on lost. Not done welding it yet but this what it will look like.

I formed a front skid that goes from my bumper to the engine crossmember.

Pics of it installed later.

Those nutserts i got fit perfect, but after installing them i thought they looked weak and didn't want to have problems later on. I just drilled a 3/8" hole through the crossmember to run a through bolt.

I drilled my cross member to mount skids over 160,000 and 7 years ago with no issues . I would rather have something bolted on securely that using those cheap nut zerts

Plus "A jeeps not yours till you drill that first hole " :wink:
